I had the same question last year. I tried a lot of things that sounded too good to be true (they were). Finally, I found a company that teaches you step by step to build your own business through a website on any topic that really interests you. I mean if you are going to be working, you might as well enjoy it. :) I am NOT computer saavy, etc., I only really knew how to do email. However, I started 6 months ago, and my site is over 200 pages. I love it and have had a ball so far. It is definitely NOT get rich quick, but slow and steady wins the race, I guess. I have started earning a bit each month, and it is gradually increasing.
I could go on and on, but why don't you take a look at my site and see if you think this may be something you will enjoy. It is http://www.chocolate-candy-mall.com
Keep in mind that although my site is about chocolate candy, you can build a site about whatever you love, like, or are quite knowledgeable about. I am truly amazed at myself and the things I have learned in the past 6 months about the internet world. For a free tour of the company that has made this possible for me just click on the link on my "about us" page http://www.chocolate-candy-mall.com/about-us.html and have a look around.
The other thing to keep in mind is you have to decide whether you want a work at home job or you want to start your own business from home. This isn't actually a job. This is starting your own business, and although it is money back guaranteed there is a fee (I feel what I got was more than worth it). Something to consider.
As for your question about spotting a legit job offer - if it sounds too good to be true - it is! I would only try things that are money back guaranteed (I've had to get my money back a few times :), and also, if they are telling you that you will get rich quick or make an unreasonably large amount of money with practically no effort - don't believe them. It is always so tempting, but you waste a lot of time and energy being tempted and disappointed.
Be willing to work and put in the time and energy. You can definitely succeed if you do. I'm convinced of that.
I wish you all the best.

No, there are not any that don't require an investment. They are all small home businesses. Companies are not just going to hand you your own small business...for freel. However that doesn't mean that you have to pay in excess of $500-$1000 to get started either. The company I have been working for for the past several months was only $50 to get started.
YES! There are legit work at home options…….I looked for 2 years before I found a good one! Learn from my experiences….lol
I’m a stay at home mom of two little girls under the age of 2. I work about 15 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. I have been with the company for only 2 months and am making $200 a week. Next month I will be making $300 a week. Also if I continue on as I am going at the end of the year I will be making $5000 a month. My friend Becky started 2 years before me. She is now making $90,000 a year.
The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit and a benefits package. In addition, there are no products, no selling, no cold calling and no telemarketing!
I absolutely love working with them and I can't believe I am making what I am making and in so few hours per week. The neat thing is there are other people on your team that you work with so you are never alone. The support is great but I have made wonderful friends as well. I think that’s important too!
I was scared at first because I know a lot of companies are not legit but this company is the number one National Medical Benefits Company in the US. They are a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Also they were featured in “The New York Times”, “Wall Street Journal” and the “American Medical Review”. Even “60 Minutes” did a big special on them!
So I felt safe with them, that and my friend was already making so much money with them. Check them out! Just type in www.workathomeplus.net in your web browser.

Work from Home almost always means scam. The ones that are not are the direct sales companies like Avon, Mary Kay, Pampered chef... all of the ones that I know of have kits you need to buy, inventory to keep on hand, money to collect, or parties to hold - some have all of those and quotas too. They are reputable and some people are really successful at it, those companies are legit.
I recommend you look into doing a home business. You have awesome tax benefits, there are more deductions allowed for home businesses than anything else.
If you would like the benefits of discounted travel, great commissions, and the tax deductions, then the business that I have found may be a good fit for you. Email me for more details.

Hi. I work from home with AmeriPlan USA. Next year I will make enough money to quit my job as a nurse. Many people within a couple of years make enough money to retire their spouses and both parents are at home. There are no Scams, Games or Gimmicks. They are a solid company and have been featured on TV's "60 Minutes", Wall Street Journal, New York Times, US News and more! . What I like is the fact that there are no products or paperwork involved!!! All work can be done online! We do get benefits and receive checks daily in the mail......which I love. Also we receive unlimited training and the support is great. I have tried other work from home businesses and this is the only one that has ever worked for me. You can work PT or FT. You are welcome to check out my website. http://www.besthomebizusa.com

Have you heard of Market America?
Market America is a product brokerage company based in Greensboro, North Carolina that is expanding across the U.S., Canada, Australia, Taiwan and soon Hong Kong and Philippines. Start up cost are low; however you don't have to lay out an investment before you start and the average independent business owner makes an annual six-figure income. I would love the opportunity to share the business concept with you.

A really easy way to make money online is to join GPT sites. GPT sites pay you to take surveys and try out new products. I remember when I first starting doing GPT's, I made about $70 within the first hour. (and then I was hooked =P) Here are 2 of my favorites:

Or, just do a search on 'gpt site', and you will come up with a bunch. =)
Hope that helps

You want a telecommuting job? You have to be professional, it's a real job that you get paid by the hour but you're doing it at home.
there are companies that hire telecommuters at http://www.workfromhomeforreal.com and go to the jobs page.
A lot of jobs are phone work but there are computer jobs too.
If you want a business, then you have to invest at least something before you start.
