Hi there, I am from Canada and have a criminal record which I have not yet been pardoned for. I am elligible in 3 years. Pardons.org has told me I am elligable for a waiver though. Its tough getting a decent job anywhere with a record. Canada is actually pretty strict with this. I am actually having a really tough time in my city getting a job in any kind off inance because of record. I want to enter the U.S now; will I have problems getting hired at financial firms? i.e bank, brokerages etc. I have not been printed by the U.S. I'm told Canada forwards my info to them though.

Thanks,

Chris

No they do not have access to the federal system, only law enforcement does! It is illegal for a local police dept, or state, to give out that information. Your employer can have you request one though!

If a sexual offender, you can find them on the offenders list in your state!

They don't usually check with any other government, however the firms you listed may want to. If hired by the government for certain jobs or a security clearance, the FBI does a background check on you!

The Only time that there will be a hard complete background check in the US is if you are trying to get a job either with the State or Federal Governments. Most employers will not do a background check unless it is necessary for your job. Yet, I wouldn't hide your record from an employer don't volunteer the information but if asked don't lie. Apply for your waiver and go get your job. Good Luck to you.

By the way if you haven't been pardoned how were you able to leave Canada ? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hey this is Chris M. I can leave because my charge is breaking and enter (non-dwelling) and I was eighteen(4 years ago). Pardons said that my gov gives the info to the FBI. Maybe not the actual police report (I don't know) maybe just that I have been charged. I will be pardoned in 3 years. I am told my record will still remain in U.S FBI database. I have found a proprietary office in U.S that will let me work there. I hope this fills in some blanks. Hopefully someone can provide me with details.

thanks,

Chris

As you see this as a major obsticle...you want a really good job, with responsibility.

Since the US authorities have no record..they will rely on the Mounty record...if you settle for a lesser job with little ot no scrutany UNTIL eligible for a pardon, that MIGHT be a suitable course of action.

I bet you wish you could turn the clock back?

What is stopping you becoming self employed? If nobody will employ you then that seems your only alternative. Work out the types of work you could do on a self employed basis and then take it from there.
