you can do nothing. she will be evalutated and discharged only if the knee is permanently damaged or will take longer than six months to heal.

You can tell her that Marine Bootcamp is an initiation, a tough one. When she gets through it she will have pride and confidence and be one of the team. If she doesn't see it through she could end up being a failure in life. She doesn't want to end up working at Walmart. The Marines will give her a chance to travel and see the world. Tell her how expensive it is to live. Her food and lodging is paid for, her medical & dental care is paid for. She gets 30 paid days of vacation per year in the Marines. What she needs to do is not long for home, but make the Marines her new family. She needs to embrace it as her new life. If she longs for being back home it will take away her ability to really do her best. Remind her how she knew there was nothing exciting to do back at home. Remind her of the reasons she joined up. Remind her of how the better the person performs the better she will be treated once she gets out of bootcamp. Remind her that the military can be a great and exciting life. The military is a great way to get a head at the government expense. We just don't see that when we are in the service. Often people in the service haven't been told enough about life by their parents. So they don't understand that life isn't any easier being a civilian than it is in the military. People are the same inside and out.

As a Marine attorney, I find your statement to be both questionable and incomplete. Bashed in the knee by a Drill Instructor can have several meanings. Was it on purpose or accidental? Was it in the execution of the DI's duties or was it a careless incident? An Article 32 Investigation will shed light on this situation. Being on crutches and in a medical hold status does not absolve her of her contractual obligation to the Marine Corps. So, to answer your question in that light, no, she cannot get out of bootcamp and you cannot help her. If the Navy doctors find that her knee injury will not permit her to serve as a Marine, then she could be medically seperated from the Marine Corps, but that is a determination the doctors will make.

She's an adult now. Time to let go. The way you tell the story you make it look like this was an on purpuse offense. Chances are very slim that this is the case. Stop buying in on your little girl saying whatever she can to get you to come to her rescue. She chose to enlist in the Marines. She got hurt in boot camp probably because she did not do as instructed. The Marines will fix her and she will finish training. She can get out of the Marines when she finishes her first enlistment. Injuries do happen and when they do thay don't just send everyone home. She will be ok and she will be a Marine. Let her be and she will be proud of herself for doing what she needs to finish.

Your Daughters injury will be evaluated by Medical personnel if she is not able to heal in a timely and cost effective way they will do a med board and dis-charge her. Your allegations of abuse are a big deal, in most circumstances soldiers that want to quit will say anything to get out. I have seen many soldiers try and harm themselves and blame some one else. I guarantee it is not as bad as people think it going to be. If you want to complete your training you' make it.
To "ME" you are a waste of life and oxygen I have read your answer's a couple of times and you are all ways dead wrong you must have been kicked out and resent the Army. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing known as refusal to train, you can decide to follow orders or not follow orders. I have personally recommended Courts Martial for soldiers that have tried that under handed un American tactic. I was successful every time, that looser tactic never worked when I was involved. Please move out of this great country and never come back.

Training accidents happen. The DI looks guilty, was blamed, but maybe it was an accident.
Recruits sometimes regret their decision to join.
Perhaps your daughter should just "stick it out" and finish.

She may be a better Marine than she thinks she is.
Getting out would most likely land her a dishonorable discharge.
They can fix the knee for her if the cartilege is damaged via ortho surgery without leaving a scar and with a quick heal time. I knew a motocross rider who healed quickly...

Check out http://www.marineparents.com It's the best online resource for everything USMC... for loved ones of recruits and Marines. Their mission is to provide information and support for parents/family members... you can log in to the Recruit Message Board (it's free) and meet up with parents of other recruits in her platoon... ask questions about medical... anything really. The parents there have so much experience in this, not only will they give you great info, they will help you through this really difficult time.

I believe, though, that unless she is given a medical discharge, she will not be allowed to just "get out"... she signed a contract...

I agree with so many other people here. She needs to tell you the truth. Basic Training is not what it use to be and DI's don't just go around injuring soldiers. Also, she is Govt Property now...they will fix her and depending on how her recovery goes and depending on where she is in training they will restart her training. I wish yall luck and tell her to stick with it. Boot camp doesn't last forever and when she is finished she will be so proud of herself.

No, you cannot sorry. Believe me the DI is being dealt with and depending on her injury she will be placed in a medical holding platoon, where she will follow up with physical therapy until she is fully rehabilitated. Then she will join a new company and have different DI's. Sorry, I saw this happen all the time.

drill instructors aren't meant to bash in knees, and they don't! your daughter needs to tell you what really happened.

don't blame the marines for her failure to adapt.
