A warm salt water rinse can help to ease some of the pain. Continue to brush and floss. And book that appt to see the dentist. =)

Try brushing, then rinsing with salt water.
Put a LOT of salt in a cup of boiling water, then let it cool to a manageable temp.
Tomorrow-without delay, get some Corsodyl mouthwash (Tastes evil, but it works) and get an appointment with a dentist. Don't leave it; gum disease is THE major cause of tooth-loss and if left untreated can wipe out every tooth in your head in one go. Happened to a family friend quite recently.

Sounds like you may be starting to develop gingivitis. It is important to treat this while it is in its infancy before it turns into periodontal disease. Your gums get irritated when bacteria get in between your teeth and gums. If you need some good info about this... stop by and visit http://www.themouthdoctor.com and http://www.oramd.com . Go down to the bottom of their web page and click on sitemap. I found many helpful articles about gum disease, gingivitis and natural treatment for these problems. I hope that helps. =)

I know that cloves numb mouth pain, not sure if it would reduce swelling though, worth a try if you could tolerate the foul taste!
