my puppy used to be on iams lamb puppy food, she recently stoped eating it... maybe because she stopped likeing it. anyways we tried another iams flavor but she didnt dig right in... infact she would eat a few bites then leave and only eat when i stood by here and made her... dont worry i was not abusive or mean i would just make sure she ate... anyways since that wasnt working well, I switched her again to benifitial you know the one with all the diffrent colors and veggies ect in it?
well my question is how good of a food is this benifitial?
she loves the taste of this i would assume because she jumps right in and chows down... but is there a more nutritious food to feed her.... im just concerned because this food is less expensive that it has more fatty fillers...

BTW my puppy is 6 months old and a border collie

HELLOO!!! my doggie has been a picky eater at times and i have had to do the same..sit there and make sure he eats his food. At times ill even have to hand feed him, i do that just because i want to make sure that he is not hungry. Its prolly not the best thing to do but i dont want my dog starving. well wat i suggest that i have been doing lately and it has been working extremely well. Ask your vet which food he recommends is best for your dog go out and buy the food and then also get a dog graving. which is a bottle of gravy that you will throw on top of the doggies food. ITS wonderful and it was approved by my vet after all the food recalls. And most importantly my dog has been eating better than ever! I usually pour about 2 tables spoon and add a little water so that it covers all the food, but im sure that depends on how much food you feed your dog i have a pomo so its not alot of food.. here is the link to the gravy if you are interested... there is also an iams gravy lots of different flavors!

Only allow your dog about 5-10 minutes to eat, then take the food. She may not eat for a day or two but she should get the idea that she needs to eat when she is given food, or she won't get anything till dinner. While you are doing this do not give her any treats, or she will decide she'll just eat treats and not eat her food. If she hasn't eaten after 2 full days then make sure there is nothing wrong with her.

Personally I recommend a raw diet or BARF(stands for bones and raw food) My dog has eaten this for over a year and he has perfect teeth that haven't been brushed in a year, a healthy coat and much more energy, and he loves it. Before you switch make sure you do lots of research. There are many opponents to raw diets so do good research and you should find that it's really healthy, It's a little more timely, but it's worth it.
I recommend www.rawdogranch.com as a good starting point and has tons of info for raw feeders.

I lost my beloved Shih Tzu from the recalled food and treats. I have a new puppy and after much research I found Merrick dog food and treats. I am very pleased with it and my dog seems to love it. Switching dog food can really cause alot of stomach problems for some dogs but if that has not happened yet it probably won't .

I love the Natures Way line of foods. We feed our border collie Instinct made by natures way. They have a large line of high qualtiy dog foods. You can look them up online for more information, I also reccommend the Solid Gold line, Wellness, Merrick, and Innova. You can research all of those high qulaity products online. After all the pet food recalls it's important to pay close attention to what you are feeding your dog, if your dog refuses to eat the food try feeding your dog something else. Iams was included in the petfood recall. Border collies are high enery dogs and they require more protien. You might opt for a grain free food. Stay away from foods that contain glutens. None of the above mentioned contain any of those. They are all made with human grade ingredients and may initally cost more but your pets health is worth every well spent penny. You actually end up feeding less.

Iams = bad food
Benefull= bad food

Do you feed the dog table scraps? if so STOP, dogs figure this out and will not eat the dog food knowing the Humans will give them people food.Now to get to a decent food.I will give you a few that I like and sell in my Pet store.This is not a complete list but just a few.

1. Nutro Natural
2. Merrick, mix with water makes gravy,made in the USA.

Beneful really is dog junk food with a lot of preservatives and artificial ingredients and fillers. I have had allergy problems develop in my dogs and these kinds of foods are often a trigger. Any food bought in a grocery store is basically junk.

I recommend any of the foods made by Natura - there are 3 brands - Innova, California Natural and Healthwise. Natura uses only human-grade ingredients, sourced in the U.S. and they make their own food, so there have been no recall problems. It has no artificial ingredients. My dogs love it, and actually it smells good. My allergy dog is not having any more itching and both have really good weight and good coats. I chose California Natural because it is designed for allergic dogs.

she is testing you. Find a food that you want to feed her make sure it is a food like Iams. Start with feeding twice a day. Split the amount of food you want to feed her and then put it down and give her about 5 ot 10 min to eat it. Then pick it up and try again that eveing. Do the same thing the next day by the end of the day she will eat like she should.

beneful, purina, pedigree, alpo...all crap. try a high quality food like solid gold, canidae, innova, wellness, timberwolf, etc. these are very good foods and not full of fillers and corn like the others. i personally use canidae. it is a wonderful dog food and you don't have to be a celebrity to be able to afford it. it is priced reasonably, pretty close to buying food in a grocery store, only you usually have to get it at a specialty pet store or feed store. not sure if petsmart/petco have it. you can use Canidae All Life Stages formula. good luck.

All I can say is when I asked my vet he said has a lot of artificial color and otehr jusnk in it told me not to use.
My dogs eat purina 1 as that is what my vet told me.
Each vet is diferent.
Just leave teh food down and when she gets hungry she will eat. constantly changing will just upset her stomache. She is being a child and would you give into a child like that or as I was taught and I teach my child both dog and human I fix your meal and you will eat what I give you........

Benifitial is not bad, however there are better choices out there for your dog. Benifitial, like many other popular brands are often filled with fatty fillers and sugars that will attract your dog, but are not healthy for it. Before buying any food for your dog, make sure you check the ingredients. Buying higher quality food will not only prolong the life of your dog, it will also improve their fur and will also keep the pooping to a minimum.
