They have to. Their storybook tells them to.

And if they ignore the storybook, they get punished by big Mr. Grumpy.

1. I have never tried to convert anyone here at all. Nor do I try and convert anyone in my personal life.
2. I have never told anyone in this forum nor in my personal life that they are going to hell.
3. Christianity as we know it is a ridiculous religion because it is so full of falsehood and error that they choose to ignore that it cause open shame to them and to God. A real Christian is one who orders their life according to Torah and has the testimony of Yahshua Messiah. Rev 12:17

I never came here to argue evolution or the existence of God with non believers I came here to have discussion on about the word of God with other believers. However very few topics worthy of discussion ever come up and if I bring them up the believers stick their head in the sand and only the brave believers and non believers answer. I have been wasting my time here and have moved on to other things.

Still for some reason here I am... Someday I'll overcome wishing to see this train wreck.

What is so ridiculous about God sending Jesus, his son, into the world. People who accept Jesus' simply want to share what they have found with the world. Take it or leave it, the choice is yours. There is no reason to get scared or defensive when a Christian is around you.

There is a few verses in the Bible which commands Christians to do this:

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:19-20)

and

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6)

So, Jesus says that He is the only way and He says to tell everyone.
That simple.

I don't know. I wish that we could confine religious conversion tactics to consensual debates, instead of somebody knocking on my door at nine a.m.

Live and let live is a good policy. 2 Jehovah's witnesses and a cab driver have tried to convert me in the past 14 days, and I in no way brought up the topic or said anything to start an argument. What about you?

Ok, I'm not going to preach to you here but in the Christian faith we believe that Jesus is coming back to take up people that believe in Jesus to heaven. When we try to convert people, it is because we dont want them to be left behind on judgement day.

Only God can really convert people. Christians and Muslims believe that we must 'witness to our faith". Many do need to learn more about their own faith and the beliefs of the person"targeted"( as well as diplomacy and basic politeness) before opening their mouths and turning people off.

Christians cannot "convert" anyone. What we want to do is point the way to Jesus Christ. What a person believes about Jesus is up to them...but a Christian desires to answer questions based on the bible, which we believe to be the inspired word of God.

The motivation for the foot soldiers is to get additional people to reinforce their decision to be Christian is the best (or only) way.

The motivation for the church elders is to get additional people to give money to them. For some of them, it is also about power. I believe the Pope is the most powerful leader in the world. More people would do what he says than what any USA president or other world leader says.

Because the first Christian Church received a mandate directly from God to "go forth and make disciples of all peoples".

We are not trying to convert people. We plant the seeds, and God decides whether or not they will grow. God is the only one who can convert someone. To try and take the credit for that would be robbing God of His glory.
It is our job to show people the way. God commands us to. So whether you agree with it or not, we do it.
