Personally, I think Harry Potter is dumb, but if someone enjoys it, who am I to judge? Why is it that many Christians take issue with these books/movies? It's just stupid fun, without any basis in reality.

I agree. It's just fantasy.

I've done a bit of research on this and here's what I've found.

1) The general prinicple against witches, or anything that would make witches appear cool or tempt children to play at them. Christians dont' like this, after all, all witches are evil and they are supposed to kill them. The bible says so.

2) Harry Potter does not have much respect for authority, and consistantly breaks the rules and not only gets away with it but is rewarded in the story for it time and again. This is not good morals, according to Christians.

3) I read a book that actually said the biggest problem is that Harry never once calls on Jesus Christ Almighty for help. He relies soley on his own judgment, which is fallible, and yet he comes out okay without turning to a higher power. Harry is self-reliant. He thinks for himself and has faith in himself.

Personally I like the moral messages in Harry Potter - that it's necessary sometimes to break the rules, that it's our choices that make us who we are, how much friendship and courage and caring count, that we must sometimes stand up to our friends and even our heros. That what is legal or accepted isn't always what's right. That our family are those who care about us, not necessarily just those with whom we share blood.

The Bible has some pretty strong things to say about witchcraft, and the Harry Potter series gets a little "dark" (especially the rebirthing ceremony in the Goblet of Fire).

I personally love Harry Potter (I reread the series everytime a new book or movie comes out), but then I realize that it is a work of FICTION. The "witchcraft" portrayed isn't religious or tied to any of the flavors of real witchcraft I know of. The fact there are dragons, hypogriffs, and other mythical beasts adds to the fun.

I avoid works which overly concentrate on Satan, but Harry Potter definitely stays clear of that subject.

I dont know how Harry Potter and religion are related. Im a christian and I love the Harry Potter books.
Also, the story line of Volldemort murdering could be compared to the world today because there is a lot but death and war and some of it is due to one person!
Lots of books are made up fanstasy and no where near as realistic as harry potter. Then again, we all have our opinion..

I am a practicing Catholic and have read all of the books, and plan on reading the newest one. I also plan on going to see the new movie when it comes out next month. Most of the Christians against Harry Potter are older and just have different, harsher beliefs than a Christian like me does.

I agree. It's a movie of fantasy. I'm not into it, but I don't see anything "wrong" with it. If Harry Potter is evil, then we'll have to eliminate magic shows, too. And the flying trapeze at the circus because people can't really "fly". etc., etc., etc., the things we would have to eliminate would go on forever.

I'm Christian and I love Harry Potter.

It isn't just some Christians who take issue with HP - it is a lot of closed-minded people. You know the kind, the ones who are offended at every little tiny thing.

Harry Potter movies and books were written to lure kids (and adults) into witchcraft. They portray actual spells, and witchcraft, and people are unaware of this.
Why do you think Harry Potter movies and books are so very popular? They seem harmless enough, right? Well, satan does parade as an angel of light. How else would he get so many followers? He has to deceive people. Otherwise many wouldn't follow him. They are more than just movies!

I'm Christian and like the books. I see nothing wrong with them. In fact, there is a parrallel with Christian beliefs. The good vs evil, and Harry being their savior of sorts.
