This is an urban legend. It is possible that people may have eaten spiders in their sleep, however, it is not something that happens on a regular basis. Why would a spider try to enter a person's mouth? Why would the person not wake up when this is happening? Even if this were true, how would the average number of spiders eaten by a person be measured? That would require scientists monitoring lots of different people over the span of a year while they sleep. To get a truly accurate number, they would have to watch hundreds of people. Why would they perform such a study?
Here is a link to what snopes has to say about it.

even as your asleep, yet another you takes over many stuff, the you that's interior and doesn't ever come out even as your wide awake. that's practically like a robotic you, it acts the way it would want to and thats that, no extra no a lot less. even as there is nutrition on your mouth or some thing for that remember, your subconscious options will basically pass "oo i want to bite this" and then swallow. the classic component is basically a normal, relies upon on the position you stay fairly. If there is numerous spiders then you'll eat extra, if theres a lot less you may want to no longer even eat any. completely random fairly, that's all all the way down to possibility that a spider will enter your mouth and considering that spiders are stupid and do not pass once you pull loopy faces at them, they are likely to in ordinary words take a seat their doing their component.

I believe it. It would be easy for a small spider to climb in your mouth while your sleeping and you not notice. I'm not sure if a spider would climb down your throat though, but you may swallow it. It depends alot on the cleanliness of your home though. Dirty homes and older homes probably have alot more spiders in them so there would be a greater chance of swallowing one. But it probbably doesn't happen 9 times a year like they say the average is.

I don't believe it. I like to think that I'm smart enough to notice when a spider is crawling on me...

This is one of many false facts around Internet:
“This "statistic" was not only made up out of whole cloth, it was invented as an example of the absurd things people will believe simply because they come across them on the Internet.”
