Since they are picking the food, if Joe Farmer has to pay legals a lot more, it means higher prices for us. How do you feel about that.

This pro immigration tactic is funny. It's funny in the sense that before the rush of illegal aliens crossing the border somehow...just someway...the American citizens were able to afford it then. Something tells me we would still be able to afford it today.

The prices of fruits and vegetables would not go up so high that we could not afford them. That is a myth. We already import many of our fruits and vegetables. Ever read the label on that peach, orange, mango that you see at the produce store? Prices are more likely to skyrocket due to natural circumstances like freeze or drought. The scare tactics just don't work anymore. Joe Farmer is more likely to be a local producer and he sells his product in local markets. You are confusing Joe Farmer, with Con-Agra and the supersized growers. Their products are normally substandard anyway, with little nutritional value when compared to locally grown crops. The big producers, grow crops that are genetically engineered to grow faster, in exchange for nutrition content and any respect for the land and soil that they grow in. They deplete the nutrients from the soil and substitute it with fertilizers and chemicals, which we are forced to eat. So really, if they go out of business, who cares ??? I'll buy from the real Joe Farmer, who is concerned with the freshness, taste and nutritional content of the fruits and veggies that go into my salads.

Joe farmer gets federal subsidies yet still chooses to pick by hand when many crops can be mechanically picked.
..BUT wait that would mean that Joe Farmer wouldn't get to score big profits if he has to
-- space his plantings to allow a machine track rather than a foot path row separation.
--Buy and maintain the equipment Mechanical pickers, haulers, sorters, boxers...)
-- "deal" with UNIONIZED "workers" who WILL demand normal "hours"and standard employee perks such as workman's comp, vacation time , raises, etc. and higher PAY . note: Pelosi "backs" unions yet refuses to allow unions as she prefers to run her properties (hotels/resorts, winery etc ) .
..True some crops must be hand picked but--> Far too many Joe Farmers and FOOD industry companies prefer to thumb their noses at the law and hire illegals EVEN THO THEY COULD apply and sponsor seasonal foreign workers...
BUT they have to do the "do the paperwork, pay fees, and comply with other tedious bureaucratic procedures
..easier to cheat and simply offload trucks of "illegal workers" and try to scare the american public into thinking that without illegals americans will starve or be forced to chose between a $100 pair of sneakers or a pint of strawberries,or bottle of California wine.... o
...Do you NOT realize that illegals in food service, prep jobs and pickers have NEVER BEEN SCREENED FOR for hepatitus, TB, chagas disease*, polio, malaria, diptheria, whooping cough, measles, mumps, typhoid ..etc
Contamination of the food supply occurs as many illegals do not know they are carriers and many fields lack standard restroom facilities with running water and soap...The school systems dont "verify" the vaccination "record" from xx state .
.....So WILL THE PRICE MATTER when you or your loved one gets a fulminating case of hepatitus or typhoid from a carrier that results death or maybe a chance at a liver transplant.???The recent e.coli outbreaks from fecal contamination should be a wake-up call.

I prefer to safeguard my family and have a safe secure food supply. All people can and do decide how much they will spend for a product and its value.PRICE is NOT the issue !

i don't care if fruits and veggies are higher priced.

by the way it is veery easy to create your own veggie garden. may take a couple of years for fruit trees though. but no big deal. in Hawaii that is easy.\

i agree with bashersmasher whole heartily.

watch how long your apples last, from a big farmers business and watch how long an apple last from a small time farmers business. you'll see the difference.

You have embraced the scare tactic of the pro-illegals! If we didn't have the ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS here, breaking our laws, we MIGHT have to pay a few cents more for our veggies. Labor is a tiny part of the cost.

The so called "$5 head of lettuce" is a total myth used by the left to scare us. I would rather pay a little more for food than to have taxpayers shelling out BILLIONS of dollars each year to pay for the illegal alien criminal's benefits.

BTW, they are ILLEGAL ALIENS, not "undocumented aliens." Your term sounds like they have done nothing wrong and that they just misplaced a document. You imply that they are not criminals even though they broke our laws when that first toe came across the border!

Studies show that the price of produce will only go up on average of 10 cents. This is because of generous government subsidies and the fact that they can only raise the price of produce so much before people stop buying it altogether. So yes, I'm willing to pay 10x more the 10 cent rise if it means whom are LEGALLY allowed to be in this country are working in the fields.

This will benefit us, too, because workers with rights have protections against agribusinesses that spray the crops with dangerous, cancer-causing, birth defect-inducing chemicals. Once they realize the workers have the right to sue for damages, we won't have to unknowingly consume these dangerous chemicals!

And imports of produce from third-world countries (where the workers again have no rights and safety/cleanliness standards are not observed--not to mention is places American farmers in jeopardy) should be tariffs placed on them.

I don't mind paying more, but truth be told, most of our fruit comes from Chile and other South American countries anyway so what difference will that make?
Our farmers are growing corn so we can have bio-fuel. There is more money in it. and it is harvested by machine!
Gallo Wineries is harvesting by machine also.
Where IS this huge problem?

That's propaganda spewed by the pro-illegal crowd.

Most of the fruits and vegetables in U.S. grocery stores right now today come from Central and South America. Check the label stickers the next time your there.

Don't believe the hype! Choose Reality!
