Cleaning their ears is a part of the grooming routine for rats.

Ok this sounds gross but when she sticks her foot in her ear is she cleaning her toes off when she brings her foot out of her ear? Normal earwax cleaning.

Does she "clean" her ears more often then she grooms her body? Does she seem to be concentrating on the ear cleaning too much? Is she shaking her head as she is cleaning her ears? Is she not cleaning her toes when she cleans her ears? Is her head tilted to one side or the other as she walks around the cage? All of these would indicate an ear infection.

You need to rule out minor ear irriation by using a holistic medicine by Dr. Goodpet

If she gets no relief from using this product then you need to get her to the vet to treat a more serious ear infection.

Unfortuneately rats can get an inner ear infection from the Mycoplasmosis pathogen

Is there some black stuff in his ear?
If so, then he could have ear mites. Very possible.
If it is the ear mites, take him to the vet, easy to fix!
hope you and your baby get better soon!!
