on a scale from 1 to 10, how rude is it to talk on your cell phone while in a library?

8-10 depending on wether the call is important or related to an emergency. Then again the conversation can always be taken outside.

Shhhhhh....

Most libraries have signs posted requesting you not to use your cell phone while in the library. If you MUST bring it in with you, turn it off, turn it on "vibrate" or whatever, to keep it silent. If it does "ring" while there, and it is a call you MUST answer, quietly tell the calling party to please "hang on" for a moment, walk OUTSIDE the library (or to some other spot... yeah, like the bathroom!), and quietly take the call.

If you must MAKE a phone call, again, go outside or to the bathroom and quietly make the call.

If, perchance, you forgot to turn off the phone and it rings loudly in the library, silence it as quickly as possible, turn BEET RED with embarassment, and quietly mouth to those around you, "OOPS... SORRY!" looking very sheepish in the process. Again, if the call must be taken, dismiss yourself, and follow above directions.

If you see others talking "loudly" (or carrying on some LONG, casual conversation like teenagers do!) on THEIR cell phones while in the library, yes... that is rude, and you can shoot them a look like, "WHAT? A cell phone?" Likely, however, rude people either don't know their being rude or don't care about it, so saying something is likely to draw no response or a negative one. If you feel you MUST say something to the person, quietly say to them, "SHHHHHHHH!" or, "I'm sorry, but your conversation is breaking my train of thought." Again, it may draw some vitriol, but as long as you are not rude, why should you care about being rude to a rude person?

before the cell phone, what did you do? so on the scale of 1-10. you are a 10 in my book! why are you going to library and talking in there!!! talk when you get out side!

8-10 in any public place, especially if you are in a resturant on one of those walkie talkie phones! So RUDE! You know that in Japan they do not talk on thier phones in public? Instead they text.

However there are always situations where you have an emergency call, but still I think you should take the phone outside to talk and come back when you are finished.

Cat lover that's no made up tale. I listen human beings speaking on the cell phones in loos each and every of the time. convinced that's rude. So is speaking on the phone even as a cashier in a save is attempting to serve you or in a eating position or a cinema. all and multiple is starting to be very rude. No manners anymore. what percentage adult adult males take their hat or cap off even as going right into a eating position? and that i do no longer basically propose adolescents. you won't be able to blame them for each thing. Older all and multiple is basically as undesirable, if no longer worse. i'm also a cat lover, yet hopefully slightly smarter!, be conscious I stated hopefully

OMG, I hate when people are at the grocery store and they are paying and they are talking on the cell phone. It totally blows me away how rude people are.

So yeah..the library would be a 10 on the rude scale.

I'd give it a 6, more or less depending on the volume of the speaking and the loudness of the ring tone. However, flipping off the librarian when she gets annoyed is an automatic 10.

10 Very Rude, they should walk out the library if it is a call they need to take.
