The vets would do the most humane and kind thing. How do you know he is that ill? there may be something the vets can do for him. Take him to the vets hunny i know its hard but if you love him you will. I know how you feel, dogs are part of the family, but it may not be as bad as you think. The vets may be able to help and give him medicine. If not they will do what needs to be done so your dog doesnt have any pain or distress. Good luck

NO NO NO NO! An overdose of painkillers is a cruel way to end a life of a dog you say you love. It would mean forcing a lot of tablets down her and she'd be SO STRESSED and more likely to vomit them back up, but even if she didn't she'd get too sleepy to swallow, by which time enough will be in her system to cause liver failure, a VERY PAINFUL DEATH!
Do you really want her last moments to be AGONY????
A Vet will give her an anaesthetic overdose and she'll fall asleep peacefully and not know what is happening. If you can't cope with taking her at least have the decency to either ask someone else to take her, ask the Vet to collect her, or do it at your home! If it's a question of money take her to the nearest Blue Cross/RSPCA or ask the Vet if you can pay in instalments. Anything but doing it yourself!
Also you say she is ill but are you sure she is uncurable?

I understand that you obviously love your dog, but murdering ( I know the word sounds harsh, but that is what you are doing.) your dog is not the answer. Are you sure your dog cannot be helped? If not, why not get the vet to come to you. If you get the dog put down humanely then you know that she went peacefully. Giving your dog an overdose WILL make her suffer, and I am sure you do not want to see her in pain she should not have to go through. Good luck. I hope you do what is right for you and your dog.

That would be far worse than taking her to the vets to be put to sleep, she would suffer if you gave her an overdose. If she really is that ill and your vet has recommended you to put her to sleep, do it that way not a home made way...that would be cruel to your dog. She won't feel anything at the vets, she will just go to sleep. You have to discuss what to do about your pets illness with you're vet.

It will make her suffer big time. Most pain killers designed for humans will make your dog haemorraghe internally which is not a nice way to die. If you don't want to take it to the vet then get the vet to come to you. That way your dog will go quietly to sleep in its own environment, with the things and people it loves. Better still, have the vet treat your dog for whatever is wrong with it.

Actually she would probably be in less pain if you let the vet put her down. You could call around and see if any vets could do it at your home or in a very relaxed environment. I think the best thing would be to have your around so she is comforted. It's up to you whether she is in bad enough shape that you feel putting her down is the best thing, but sometimes it's for the best and they're in a better place. Just try to make her comfortable and show all the love you can to her.
You are both in my prayers.

First it is against teh law you have two choices let her die naturally and let her suffer or take her to the vets. the vets where I live you could dro the dog off in the morning and they will put to sleep later. Tehn they can take care of teh body or you can pick up and burry yourself. This is the most human thing and teh only way your dog won't suffer so do her a favor and do it tomorrow if she is that bad.
Sorry for your loss but that's the truth.

Give your dog the respect she deserves and take her to the vets to be put down in a humane way. If she was a good companion for you &she was part of your life, then its the least you can do for your canine friend -be brave, you dont have to stay while its being done, or get a friend to go with you. x

Wait.. by ODing you're trying to put her out of her misery? ODing is NO way to go, and can probably be considered animal abuse in court of law. ODing in a dog is the same as a human. Vomiting, nausea, head pain, stomach pain, and finally death if you're lucky (or in some cases, UNlucky).
If you care for your dog, have a trained vet put it down!
