I used to believe in Him. In fact, I was brought up to believe in Him. Then I realized that the things the Bible told us contradicted themselves, such as the statement that God is merciful. However, if He really was merciful, how could he have let so much suffering come to pass? Isn't it better just to guarantee eternal salvation for all of us than to fling those who didn't believe in Him to hell? Well, these questions couldn't even be answered by my pastor, who by the way uses the church money to fund his own daughter's extracurricular activities...:(. I don't know what to believe anymore. I think that the only thing that leaves me doubtful is the eternal salvation thing. I don't really want to believe that a person only has eighty years to live on average... so I find myself wanting to believe in eternal salvation. If it weren't for that, I would've been an atheist long ago, because I noticed that the people who believed in Christ or God were those who had suffered tremendously in the past, and needed something to believe in, to give them comfort.

There's a difference between believing in Christ and believing that he was the son of God. I think a fair number of people believe that some guy named Jesus existed, but that doesn't mean they're going to deify him. After all, early Christians didn't.

I used to be a practising christian, and yes i did belief in christ.

However, it wasn't until I was older that I realized the differences between my belief and the christian's belief.

I never did think Jesus was God, and never will. I always thought he was just a person who existed and taught this stuff.

Once I realized that I was supposed to believe he was God, well, that's when I began leaving the faith.

I still believe Jesus existed as a person, I won't deny him existence. But I do not believe he is a God, and I do not believe in his message.

Many atheists are ex-Christians who read the Bible, which pushed them away from Christianity.

I may not be an atheist, but I am a former Christian. Studying the Bible pushed me away from Christianity.

I still think Christ is awesome though; it's just many who call themselves his followers scare me.

Yes, as a child I believed whatever Mom and Dad said. Now, as a well-read adult I understand that is exactly what the Roman Catholics were doing to control the poor, uneducated masses; was treating them like children, telling them that there was a boogey-man, who would steal their souls, if they didn't obey the rules!

Actually I believe in the teachings of Jesus as expressed in the sermon on the mount. The religion that claims his name however, doesn't. So, yea I believe in Jesus, but it's his followers I have problems with, and their idea of god.

Sure, little kids believe everything their parents tell them. After a while, they start to think for themselves, if things just don't add up, they clear them out of their heads.

I used to really try to get into it when I was little but I never really bought it so no. I tried though, just to make my mom happy. In the end I just gotta be me.
