First of all I would like to say that "atheist" is not the same as "spiritually deprived" and more importantly, we DO NOT believe that the social acceptability of something is a measure of its morality, or disbelieve in "spirituality."
We are defined by the fact that we are not gullible enough to believe in YOUR God...Or, indeed ANY God. God being defined as an all powerful entity that exists (apparrently,) assuage your fear of the unknown, and promise retribution to those who don't agree with you, and eternal rewards to you and your buddies, AFTER YOU HAVE CEACED TO EXIST...
As for atheists being confined to "political issues," RELIGION IS A POLITICAL ISSUE!!!
po·lit·i·cal(p-lt-kl)
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or dealing with the structure or affairs of government, politics, or the state.
2. Relating to, involving, or characteristic of politics or politicians: "Calling a meeting is a political act in itself" Daniel Goleman.
3. Relating to or involving acts regarded as damaging to a government or state: political crimes.
4. Interested or active in politics: I'm not a very political person.
5. Having or influenced by partisan interests: The court should never become a political institution.
6. Based on or motivated by partisan or self-serving objectives: a purely political decision.
Each and every aspect of a person's life is affected by their personal view of the universe, if you believe that "everything is in God's hands," you absolve yourself from any personal responsibility while at the same time working to enforce the "laws of God," in the political forum, which, in our country, is supposed to keep church and state separate...
Yahoo! Answers is EXACTLY the kind of forum needed to help Theists and Atheists come to an understanding of each other, and I will admit that many atheists are prejudiced towards Christians, but usually not as prejudiced as Christians are towards Atheists, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and everyone that doesn't believe in Jesus...
We may not believe in God, but why should it bother you? Won't we all be tortured for eternity in hell? Isn't our every immoral thought and practice just here so you can be strengthened in your Godly faith? Why decry the Atheist? You should be praising God, and thanking us for making your life more difficult and therefore more glorious to God...Right?

I am a pagan and a Taoist and an atheist. Don't forget that spirituality does not equal religion. And not all spiritual philosophies involve a deity. Think outside the box.
Aside from that, I actually am interested in the things Christians in particular say to try to convert people, because I have children and I fully expect Christian children to say these things to them when they find out my kids aren't Christian (it happened to me when I was younger, and oddly enough still happens).
So, I want to have thought about the Christian point of view and their arguments, so I can give a well-thought-out response to my children. I want to be able to clearly articulate what I think, because my ability to answer their questions may be important in my having credibility with my own children.
So I've been in forums like this for years now, and I'm really glad I did. Not only has it driven me further from Christianity than I ever thought I could be, but I think I can explain my views very well to my children, when they ask. I'm even keeping file of FAQ's.

Until Madeline Murray O'Hare went to court to have atheism declared as a religion America did not recognize atheism as a religion. Finally the supreme court declared it was a religion. Since that time, this group of people have done everything within their power to run down and run over all people that have faith in any god, much less the God of heaven and earth. They have the right to tell us all the dirty things they spout endlessly. We do not have that right to constantly ridicule this group because we know that God is the God of love. We must not be as others but as the Most Holy God in heaven would do. We, as Christians, must love these people. After all, these non-believers put the Glorious Son of God on the cross and killed them. Then what did He say on the cross but ask His Father not to hold this against these people because He came to earth to die for people such as these. We must have enough respect and love for Jesus to love these revilers. He loves them, too. Please think on this and remember those people are loved by Him.

I am a Christian and I post here for one reason. When I became a Christian it was because I had become aware that I was a sinner in need of a Savior and that Savior was Jesus Christ. At first I resisted but in time I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior by an act of repentance and trust. By repentance I turned from my sinful desires and to the work of Jesus which meant that I would tell others what He has done for me. There is nothing more important in this life than being ready for eternal life and my desire is for every one to be aware of that fact. I don't intend to force my beliefs on anyone but in obedience to my Savior I have to make what I know to be the truth available to every one. My prayer is for every one who reads this to give it some serious thought. God bless
There are only two paths of life before us. God's way of obedience or the way of rebellion and destruction. By choosing your pathway you choose your eternity.

Do you have to be a hamburger in order to have an opinion about them? This is not a forum for the proclamation of the Gospel. It is a forum for asking and answering questions about religion and spirituality. That is the biggest challenge facing humanity at present - finding ways to talk about the things that matter most to us with people who disagree with us, and learning not to assume that those with opposing viewpoints have nothing to say that is worth listening to.

this IS a political issue, if you christian fundamentalists will stop trying to put the 10 commandments in courts, or say God Bless America left and right, and the first questions news pundits ask is do you love God, then I have to stand up.
This is a war, a war of being portrayed a sadistic freak while you christys going around with your fake "love everyone" crap.
The Constitution does not promote nor condone any religion, nor can it, it's the 1st amendment, if you want to put God into government why the hell don't you get the hell out. Stop HATING AMERICA CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALISTS!

Join a good Christian group on Yahoo Groups. I did.
Remember that Christians believe in GOD. No gods, no goddesses.
Atheists, Satanists and others do not believe in God at all, yet they are allowed here due to the First Amendment's right to the freedoms of speech and religious expressions.
And, if you are a Christian, ANYONE who does not believe in God and is speaking here, DON'T let them distract you and sidetrack you into "useless questions and debates". That is PRECISELY what they'd like to do to you!

Some are on here for the discussion of Religion/Spirituality,,,others just like to irritate Christians, to make them aggravated, to try and show a gap in the Christians belief, or faith, to show it's not that strong.

Because it is an open forum for people to not only share common opinions, but also to debate. You might also ask why do many Christians post mean and hateful questions on here when R&S according to Christianity is about loving one another....

A good question, Kiki --- one that i've seen frequently asked directly and indirectly ~~~ but NEVER as respectfully and with consideration as you have asked it.
.
I look at it this way, Kiki. Atheism is a belief about religion ... it just happens to be a belief that God does not exist (Note: Just as an FYI, i am a born-again Christian who believes the Bible.)
. I believe that Atheists are on this site for the same reason that we Christians are; to convert people to their religious beliefs --- even though in the case of Atheism it it the belief that God or any other gods do not exist.
. Unfortunately, i've noticed that a many of those Atheists here are haters and are vicious and violently abuse verbally, mentally, and emotionally ... cyberbullies.
. I've also noticed that many Atheists aren't asking sincere questions that they are open to thinking about, but are just "trolling" to pick fights with us Christians (which we shouldn't allow ourselves to be baited into, even as Paul told us.)
.
HOWEVER, i have to be honest and say that there are also MANY Christians who are the same way toward Atheists.
. I understand that it is probably reacting to the attacks of Atheists because their viciousness has gotten me angry, too. But it STILL affronts me to see Christians do that. My mother raised me with the principle of "two wrongs don't make a right" and Jesus Christ tells us not to return violence for violence --- and to "... be angry but do not sin ....".
.
But Atheism IS a religious belief, Kiki ~~~ it is just the belief that God and gods of any kind do not exist.
.
I will be praying for you and your family and loved ones, Kiki
T <3 :)
