The only two reason I can think of are
1. they believe the directive to consecrate Russia to her must come through the Catholic Church and it's primacy there and the Vatican has aknowledged (at least publically) that the Russian Orthodox Church has the primacy there.
or
2. the third prophecy (which every pope has read and decided not to reveal since 1960) many Fatima devotees believe was not really revealed and was not what the Vatican claims about the assassination attempt on JP II. It is said John XXIII fainted when he read it because he interpreted it that the Pope would be killed and antipope would take place that would destroy the world. There is no question even that what was released was not about the JP II assassination. So alot think the Church is withholding the prophecy they are suppose to give of the apocylpse.

Yes, the Vatican has yet to obey the request of Our Lady to consecrate Russia to Her Immaculate Heart by means of a public prayer by the Pope in union with the Catholic Bishops of the world. The following documentary will explain to you this controversy in a nutshell.

The following article will also help answer your query:

The following article will tell you about what happened at Fatima:

Many claim that the Fatima message is irrelevant today. But on the contrary it is most crucial to explain everything that is happening in the world right now. Our Lady said that great chastisements would befall the world if Russia wasn't consecrated to Her Immaculate Heart. Fatima experts claim that a third world war is round the corner because this request has not been complied, a war that will be perpetrated by Communist Russia. Our Pope Benedict XVl's life may be in danger if he doesnt do the Consecration a.s.a.p. According to various prophecies of the church however it will be not this Pope but the one after him who will do the consecration and bring about the conversion of Russia to the Catholic faith and subsequently the conversion of the world.

From what I understand the current Pope changed what was written. He deleted some info and added a lot more things to it. I think you get a lot of details from Nexus Magazine, I don't know their website but I am sure you can find it. They have done a lot of coverage on the Fatima prophecies so you shouldn't have any troubles finding info once you get on their site.

Not at all. This current Pope and JPII were the only ones who knew the Third Secret that Sr. Lucia held onto...and I do believe that - as the former head of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Joseph Ratzinger takes that kind of thing very seriously.

In my ancient and terribly rusty catacombs of Catholicism I believe the Fatima directive was to pray the rosary every day and the lady of Fatima would prevent the earths destruction from nuclear war. I haven't prayed the rosary a single time and neither has the world been destroyed by nuclear war, so I guess this is an irrelevant topic.
