I am taking Oxycodone for post surgery pain. I really don't need them anymore and I'm not gonna take them. However, I did take a 5 mg one today around 2:30. I know, your not supposed to drink alcohol while on this medication, but do you think that the pill will be out of my system enough by tonight? Can I have a few beers with my friends without risk?

Wait at least two full days would be my GUESS, though I'm not a certified medical professional and so I can't be sure.

Problem is that oxycodone/Oxycontin is metabolized by your liver. If you are beating on your liver with alcohol, then the drug may not be fully metabolized by your liver and could result in side effects.

Most side effects of oxy/alc interaction are simply exacerbations of other side effects: drowsiness, difficulty with motor control, slurred speech. But if drowsiness becomes too strong, it moves into the realm of "fall asleep don't wake up" kind of stuff.

Be a designated driver. Many bars will give you free sodas for that, at least.

I would either call my doctor or your pharmacy in order to obtain the most safest and proper answer to your question. Everyones' bodies are different and the ability to absorb medicine in your system varies.

"When in doubt...check it out" is a good rule of thumb.

You will be fine! This may sound bad... but I have taken pain killers and then gotten drunk and been fine. You will be fine. Have some beers.
