why do critics of christianity call christians ignorant? when they are being ignorant in their very own ways. not all christians are the same. i am christian and i find value in all different kinds of faiths. i explored many faiths, and even kept a very skeptical outlook before choosing what to believe. why can't we just respect others beliefs...live and let live? a respectful attitude has nothing to do with any particular faith, its just about being a decent human being!

to add some depth to this question, i grew up in a non-religious home. nothing was ever shoved down my throat. if anything, it was discouraged. before coming to my faith, i was a skeptic, and yet still a very nice, sweet girl. i never once said that you need organized religion to be a good human being. just please don't lump us together, each christian is their own dynamic person. oh yeah, and i know quite a bit about evolution and it makes great sense to me...it doesn't negate the existence of God at all. i would just encourage people to be more open minded!

I agree with you and I also add that when a person generalizes to the point to include all people with a certain belief it is because they are ignorant to the facts of what faith is, what religious practice is and why people have made the choice to follow their hearts and mind and believe.
To me it is sad to see someone who has no belief because that means there is no hope and therefore no love.
The fount of love is God.
God bless and dont pay them to much mind, give them a sensible, Christian response if you wish to spread the Gospel and move on, knowing that even if just one person pays you mind and follows your inspiration, you have been blessed.

Fine ideals.
Please remember that not all critics call all Christians ignorant. I'm a critic of Christianity, but would not call all Christians ignorant. Usually, those that I think ignorant are simply those who refuse to see what is placed in front of them; those who will counter honest discussion and questions with ad-hominem attacks or by completely changing the subject.
If you were a skeptic prior to becoming a Christian, I have no problem with that. One point that you made though, does justify some critics' arguments; that you 'chose' what to believe; the point being that you had a choice. Unlike seeing things always falling, and recognizing that there must be some force causing this to happen, you were persuaded through argument and / or rhetoric, and decided to believe.
I am not a Christian, but I do have faith. I came upon my faith in much the same manner; it is a choice, based though, on some observation and reason.
I hope though, if you are a Christian, and have, as you claim, chosen your path, that you are reasonable enough to recognize that we must all do a similar thing. I hope that you are not of the ilk that would, based on your 'choice' alone consider all different views necessarily wrong.
The attitude that all other paths are wrong is the single attitude that causes other faiths or atheists to regard Christianity with disdain. If you can hold to your own beliefs, while recognizing that other faiths have as much validity as yours, then I'll have no argument with you, save that on an intellectual level in friendly debate.
It is when you claim that what you "chose" to believe is inherently right, and that what I believe is necessarily wrong or evil, that I have a major problem.

Here's what I've found out from making an attempt to be excellent and useful on this phase, answering evolution questions as though the man or woman asking relatively desired to understand: They do not. If they had been relatively concerned about information evolution, they could ask their questions within the Biology phase. Evolution questions requested by way of Creationists within the Religion and Spirituality phase are ninety nine.nine% assured to be insincere, and you'll guess your candy aunt sally the solutions will likely be absolutely not noted by way of the asker. All they're looking to do is "stump" you with a few ridiculous creationist argument and bolster their possess lack of knowledge. Any try to coach them is futile. They don't concentrate. I grew pissed off with it and began gambling the "ask a dull query, get a dull reply" sport alternatively. The relaxation people experience a well, trained reply, despite the fact that. I have an attractive well fundamental information of evolution, however it has been a whilst seeing that Biology a hundred and one, and I've found out tons from clever humans round right here who're extra sufferer than I am, mainly after they put up plenty of well hyperlinks. So, you'll be preaching to the choir, however we do not brain one bit. Just do not assume the ignorant to recognize it.

I do not consider myself a critic of christianity.
I consider myself an eclectic pagan, a witch... and with what you are saying you are going against the belief of your religion.
The only thing pagans really have a problem with concerning the christian faith, ( other then the constant attempts at converting everyone else!) is that the christian faith has no respect for others beliefs or religions. The christian faith says that they are the only "true religion".
So this in itself contradicts what you say when you speak of everyone having religious tolerance. Dont you think?

They really are rude on here. I am able to have very open-minded, courteous discussions about one another's faiths on other sites, but not so here. Maybe it's because they are the majority here. Maybe it's because they are offended by everything about us, by the very nature of our truth. I know for sure that they cannot be held to the same standard as us; I do what I do and think like I think and have this freedom and have these desires because of Christ. Since they are not governed by the same Spirit, the same thought pattern, decency, behavior cannot be expected of them. The rules don't apply to them. It would be nice if they could just be nice, but I wasn't so nice without Christ either. This is not to say I'm superior at all. For example, I have a 12 step program; my family members and others can do really jerky stuff sometimes. But rather than getting myself all wound up about it I have to remember that they don't have a program; they're doing the best that they can. And then I pray for them.

I don't think anyone says ALL Christians are ignorant. Just the unfortunate majority. The one's who hate and judge other people for having beliefs or lifestyles that they are unfamiliar with. And yes, it is judgment whether they admit it or not. Telling someone that their behaviors are wrong b/c god says so IS judgment whether you want to admit it or not. All the critics want is for the fundamental christians to learn that not everyone is like them but that that they still deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. And please please please stop telling threatening people with the hell myth. It gets annoying.
And to people who say that without a religious belief one cannot possibly be happy or feel love. Thats complete BS. Religion has nothing to do with being a good person, or being happy, or having the ability to love on a deep level. In fact i've seen quite the opposite coming from many religious folk. Most of my friends have some sort of belief in a higher power. Very few actually follow an organized religion and I have one friend who has no belief in god whatsoever. She is kindest sweetest most loving person you could ever meet. Christians stereotype too. You are not holier than thou.

You may well be an exception to the rule, but face it. The majority of christians say the bible is the undisputed word of God and they believe it over all other evidence. This means they believe that unicorns and dragons are real. And if that is not ignorance, what is?

This is true but you have to remember that all people come from different walks of life and how they respect people is probably completely different from the next...Most people probably didn't think on the "live and let live" some people think of the song by Guns N' Roses "Live and Let Die"...so many people have the ideas that resemble Constantine and we know what happened to that...Maybe it's just best that we left well enough alone

If that's what you believe, then you aren't one of the people who most of the criticism is aimed at.
Don't pretend that all Christians agree with you. Most of them don't (to varying degrees) and many of the beliefs held by Christians on this site are legitimately deserving of criticism.

Thank you, you're a cool Christian. Some other Christians are ignorant. I only take offense to the ones that like to tell everybody they're going to Hell. Respectful Christians like you are fine with me.
