i think i get what u r saying. when they say drink 8-10 cups of water a day to they mean a cup as in 8oz. or a cup as in a regular kitchen glass. i still dont know which one they mean though....

if you are referring to measures:
1 cup holds in UK - 8fl.oz/250ml liquid
1 cup holds 4oz/125gr flour

if a definition:
a small vessel to drink out of; anything hollow, like a cup.

look it up but seeing that u don't even know what a CUP is, might as well tell u. it is something that u use to contain a beverage in which u can drink from. it is also 8oz which is used to measure ingredients.
