No neither is sinful, or atleast not by my definition. It is perfectly fine as long as it's during the right occasion and for the right reasons. But it is or should be a sin to make other people drink or get drunk against their will.

No, it is not a sin to drink. Catholic priests and probably even the Pope drink small quantities of wine. Drunkenness, however, is a sin. It's akin to gluttony, one of the seven deadly sins, because it is intake of an excessive amount of alcohol. So long as you only have a few drinks and it doesn't alter your behavior then you are not committing a sin.

Sin is an old fashion word no longer relevant in today's society. Today there is right and wrong which is relatively easy to figure out for yourself. So in answer to your question it is only wrong to drink or get drunk if you behave wrongly when ever you drink or get drunk.

The definition of sin is essentially to break the law willingly when you know it is wrong.

So if you drink and drive it is a sin. If you get drunk alone at home it is merely pathetic. If you don't drink at all it is righteous. Tough choice...

I'd have to say that drinking is more of a taboo. it also depends on why you 'drink to get drunk'. if you just want to act buckwild and forget all moral aptitude in the process, then i'd say yes it is indeed wrong. drinking to tone your stress levels down is a more acceptable reason to have a few drinks. same principle applies if you, as a man, attend church every saturday/sunday only to scope out women or show off your new outfit. depends on what your intent is.

it gets confusing because some people rather avoid getting drunk by not drinking at all. really is up to you because alchohol affects people differently; it becomes sinful because it's easier to lose grip of your senses and do things that you would not normally do when sober.
