I have Strep Throat, and Swollen glands and am taking antibiotics. I know that it's an anti-inflammatory but, Ibuprofen does not seem to be taking away the swelling of my tonsils or glands. I need something to help me swallow food comfortably. Preferrably something over the counter. I need something that will take the pain away for longer than 5 minutes, which is typical of any topical throat spray. Any suggestions?

You poor thing. I used to get strep throat a lot. What I found works is if you gargle with warm water and salt 3 times (or more if it's really bad strep) a day. The topical throat spray never helped me... it only made me gag.

Best of luck to you, I hope you feel better soon.

You could try Tylenol, but it probably won't help the swelling in your throat. Have you tried something frozen, like ice cream or a malt? Cold juice and soda help, too. Otherwise you could try those awful Chloraseptic throat sprays or drops. They do numb the throat for awhile, though they don't exactly help solve the pain.

Honey, really there's not much you can do. I had strep about a month ago and I just had to take my antibiotics, drink a lot of hot tea, eat chicken noodle soup, gargle with salt water, and take the sore throat Robitussin.

I had that as kid growing up and the only thing that helped was gargling salt water as often as need. Drink something cool to re-hydrate....salt is an astringent.
