I need to know how long it takes to get the Department of State official proof of application for a passport. After you mail it in how long will it take to get this "reciept", so that you can travel within north america?

I think the receept is only issued if you applied in person

You have to download your "receipt", it doesn't come to you in the mail. The one you get when you fill out your application is not the one you need, it's not official receipt.

The receipt is issued to you in person as soon as you have completed the passport application.
