will they grow back? And what's the effect if they don't, he's very spoilt and doesn't go out, except on the verandah most of the time he's asleep somewhere. Are there any serious problems, with him not having whiskers?

And before anyone asks what's a 6 year old doing with scissors, they are supposed to be children's plastic paper only scissors!!!

your cat's whiskers will grow back and your cat will be fine. in the mean time they will be a bit cautious about things, a cat's whiskers are what tells them where they can fit basiclly. Ever notice that they are just about the same width as their bodies? just keep an eye on her so that she doesn't get stuck any where, and hope fully your kid will "cut out" the kitty haircuts in the future.

Well it depends how far down she cut it, but, It's not that bad he still has one side of his face that works right. It's not nearly as bad as when the get the whiskers burnt off becuase then the tips need to heal first. Anyways all cats are different like humans, When you cut your hair it might take a year to grow back, but, when I cut my hair it might take a month. Cats are the same way. So don't worry to much if there cut really short you might want to keep him inside tell they grow back to a point where his balance a perception are a bit better. Try putting the scissors in a child proof drawer or something, good luck.

Your cat will be fine. His whiskers will grow back. They are hair just like everything else. He could be a bit disoriented, especially at night. They use the whiskers as feelers to tell them how far away they are from something, if they can fit behind the sofa, things like that. They are also pretty sensitive and your child probably shouldn't mess with the whiskers anymore.

As to what a 6 year old is doing with scissors, I just shook my head and thought "goofy kid," but kids need to be able to use kids scissors and no matter how much supervision you give, kids will ALWAYS find a way to do something that parents don't necessarily approve of. So if anyone criticizes you, just ignore it. They aren't thinking clearly. And thank God the kid just cut the cat's whiskers and not YOUR HAIR while you were sleeping! Ha! Then you would really be in a pickle.

Yes, they'll grow back, but don't be surprised if that cat is a little clumsy until they do. They use their whiskers for a lot of sensory information, and it kinda makes them semi-stupid for a while. No real bad harm though, so don't worry too much. Just don't be alarmed if the cat misjudges distances or things like that. And don't feel bad, it happens a lot. I used to work at a vet, and it's a natural thing for a kid to think they can cut the whiskers. :)

Kids, OY! LOL! Resourceful little monsters ...

Your cat should be fine, though it will probably be a few months before his whiskers are back. In the meantime, he may misjudge landings when he jumps, as cats use their whiskers for balance. Chances are he'll take some falls ... just keep an eye on him and make sure he isn't getting hurt from his crashes. He'll likely be okay aside from a bruise or two.

Cat's whiskers are just like human eyelashes and they have some fall out and then regrow just like we do. Don't worry, they will grow back. Cat's use their whiskers to help them in the dark so a housecat really shouldn't have any problem.
I worked at a big cat rescue and we used to look for their whiskers all the time.

i have worked at a vet hospital for 6 years now . first off keep sharp objects away from your child ,could have unitentionaly really hurt him or her. but the answer to your question . whiskers are a way for a cat to feel around like going into tight places and such. they are also used for balance . they will grow back this will take time.

When I was 6 years old, I cut off my Siamese cat's whiskers. Within a year, the cat went blind. I was certain that the cause of her blindness was cutting off her whiskers. Turns out, they grew back and she was going blind the whole time :)

The cat should be fine. And the whiskers should grow back. My dad cut my dogs eye wiskers off and they grew back. (Yeah my dad is weird. He thought they were getting in his eyes....)

It shouldn't affect the cat that much, just maybe throw it off balance a little at first.
