How can you be a "polytheist Muslim?" A Muslim by definition IS a monotheist.
See I do have respect for people who are honest and sincere about their beliefs, doesn't matter if they are Christian or Muslim. *My* complaint with you is that I don't really feel you are sincere and I have seen posts of yours in the past slandering Pagan religions. I didn't like that.
I ask the Christians for proof because they are always trying to shove their religion down my throat. Really, I don't think that is too much to ask.

Like you said, not all Atheists are that way. And hopefully, not all Christians are the same, either.
I find that I just choose not to disclose to most people that I am atheist, because they feel the need to convert me, which is the ultimate "I'm right, you're wrong" declaration.
But by definition, it's not atheist who have to prove they are right. Christians and other religions are the ones who are declaring that there is a god. It should be on THEIR shoulders to prove that they are right.
Anyway ... I am very adament about the fact that I don't really care what you believe. If you believe in a god, and it's working for you ... that's great. It's none of my business and you have the right to believe in whatever you want to.
Unfortunately, it usually doesn't work the other way around. So to answer your question, I would say that Atheists are tired of everyone trying to convert them, so they start getting defensive, which naturally sounds like bragging, etc. to someone of belief.
Hope that helps.

You are right in saying we need to PROVE we are right. I went for many years of my life not proving my beliefs at all. I just believed, because it was what my parents taught me, and because I was afraid of the consiquenses of not believing (hell).
Becoming an Atheist was a tough thing and took allot of honesty and real research, so when I hear someone tell me I am ignorant or that what I am saying about evolution is wrong because they 'feel' that way, I 'feel' the need to PROVE them wrong.
It might be nice sitting around believing that Leprechauns exist, but that doesn't make it true, and I would expect people to get upset if I started proposing Laws that required schools to teach that Leprechauns created the world, just because thats what I felt.

First, not all, indeed not most atheists will do this. It is no different really, than the in-yorur-face sort of Christians who insult and malign atheists or any other group they feel is ungodly.
Christians blamed the WTC destruction on gays and abortion practitioners. Christians are trying to keep the theory of evolution out of schools, and to replace it with their idea of creation. This irks many an otherwise peaceful atheist.
Too, you might wish to remember that not all atheists are against religion. Buddhism itself is an atheistic religion.
Please don't paint with such a broad brush.

I have a little faith but I am a wishy-washy agnostic. I like to think that when I am in a nursing home, old and ailing and waiting to die, that I will have some hope of an afterlife. I am glad that I am not a convinced atheist who is absolutely sure that he is going to be going into nothingness. That would be completely depressing. I think that the committed Christians will have the last laugh, even if they are wrong. They will die with hope.

i will write my reply in the form of the question completely without punctuation its fun to butcher grammar but I digress
oops i capitalized that last 'i' oh no quotation marks are punctuation im not doing so good at this
anyways atheists are just learning from the best of them you know doing unto others as they have done to them i mean there isnt a day since i was 3 years old that a christian didnt try to convert me or tell me im going to hell but since i never signed up for that cruise ship ticket to hell i must have won the lottery cuz its bound to be a long trip
btw where is my actual ticket to hell i need to schedule boarding times shuffleboard practice tee times on the driving range etc anyways i am rambling which is easy to do when you dont need to type capitals or punctuation marks this is kind of fun again rambling i think ill stop now before this punctuation thing sticks like when your mom used to warn you that your face would stick that way

The burden of proof is always on the person who makes a claim of something existing. If you claim that a mountain exists to the west of your town, isn't it YOU who must prove to the people of the town that the mountain exists? Wouldn't they all just go out and look to the west? If they saw no mountain there would they be the ones to have to prove that there was no mountain there? Geesh. Get with it will ya.

Not an atheist..but, your post is difficult to understand as it does not have puncuation. You make a much more compelling argument if you properly constructed a sentence and paragraph.
To answer what I think your question is...I find that the atheists do not try to prove themselves right anymore than the fundamentalists try to prove themselves right.

The reason is most Atheist are immature kids who just want to rebel against their parents.
But we do like to prove that we are right. This is what makes an Atheist and what makes a good scientist. We want to prove our answers right so we know that we are right ( how else can we get ideas that work?). We do not rely on faith.

Religious people do the same thing. They try to cram and ram their propaganda down other people's throats whether they want it or not. And if the person refuses to believe them then they threaten them with the hell myth. Everyone does it.
