A bowl-cut is not bad at all. They actually can make women look more mature and little girl's look their age. My mother kept my hair in a bowl-cut until I was ten. I also just cut my 7 year old daughters hair in a bowl-cut and it is clipper shaved straight around her head (from the length of her bangs all the way around). I even had a bowl-cut for 3 years straight when I was 30 to 33. There are worse things that could happen to you. I'm sure you're mom looks a lot better than you have described her to look. And it is her decision, not yours.

Come on, your mom can't look that bad. If there was a link to a pic provided, we could all have a better idea of what a bowlcut looks like on her.
And besides, so what? She probably wanted and needed a change from the same hairstyle she had been sporting. It's her hair, after all. Things could be worse; she could have dragged YOU down to the stylist (or barber if a stylist won't do those sorts of cuts) with her and make you get a matching bowlcut!
Her friend doesn't have a problem with it, your friends don't have a problem with it, certainly your mom doesn't have a problem with it; seems the only one with the problem is YOU!
You don't have to like it, that's fine! But be supportive of your mom anyway; don't hurt her feelings over this! Besides, after a while, you won't even care that she keeps her hair in a bowlcut (that is, if she intends to keep it that way for a while, which is a good possibility).
Just let it go and move on with life!

Simple thing to ask yourself: Do you own your mom? If so, does she also have the reciprocal right to own you? Sooner or later you're going to be fighting to have your mom let go of you so you can get a tattoo or a navel ring or a punk boyfriend or something else that she doesn't like. If you want your mom to let go of you, you must also let go of your mom. That's fair, don't you think?

I think you should lighten up and let your mom do what she wants with her hair. I know you're 17 and having a mom who looks weird is the most awful thing in the world right now but really, as long as she's still taking good care of you does that make her any less your mother? I like her attitude: you don't tell her how to wear her hair, she won't care what you do with hers. Maybe while she was growing up she had an overbearing mother who wouldn't let her color her hair and now she's realized that she can do what she wants. She's her own person too, you know, and if I had a daughter who was telling me what to do with my hair or clothes, I'd think it was ridiculous.
There are worse things to feel sad about, like having parents who physically abuse you or abandon you. If this is the worst thing your mom ever does to you, you are a very lucky person.

Remember this when you are your Mom's age and want to look young again. As long as your Mom still acts and dresses like a respectable adult you have no right to make her feel bad about her hair. Maybe you SHOULD try a change with your hair. It might make you look better.

i agree, that is pretty retarded...but.... just so u know, u cant really help it. lol
maybe get her a really cool hat or something, like a beanie... thing. lol
but yeah, i am pretty positive u cant stop this, because well, she is your mom, and....u cant change that, and u cant change what she does. it isnt illegal to have ugly hair, although it should be. im really sorry, your mom..is just...kind of odd. lol
but i would be happy, that she at least tries, and she isnt like..old and boring. enjoy her company, because like..she is your mom, she makes sacrifices for you, and i think she just makes herself feel younger by going out and doing crazy things, i mean, nobody wants to get old... old(ER)... but not OLD. lol
so, just suggest different ways of styling maybe, or show her like... some other hairstyles, talk about how they are really in, and maybe your mom will like them,...idk

If your mother likes it then that should be the most important thing to you. You don't have to always like what mother's do but you do have to respect them.
