I've studied Spanish for almost 10 years (via school) and I wish to SPEAK it more fluently than how I have been. I'm not sure what the problem is, but sometimes the words don't come out of my mouth right, or I know what to say but can't force the sound out. It's like I'm stifled. Sometimes I speak well and sometimes not. I really would like to overcome this because I want to be an interpreter when I'm an adult. I want to improve speaking Italian as well. If you would, please help me. Gracias, Grazie.

I speak Spanish (been a tourist guide in Spain a long time ago). My suggestion to you is to go to Spain where you can speak Spanish with Spanish people and soon you will find out how your Spanish will approve, especially as you have already studied Spanish for 10 years. (Of course any other Spanish speaking country is good too, but they have another accent.) Good luck, you will make it, I´m sure. My suggestion is, first learn one language thoroughly, then when you speak Spanish good enough, then start to learn more Italian, because the languages have a lot in common, and one can easily get confused.

Italians and Spanish persons can have an understanding of every different slightly bit. But are not making the improper proposal. It does not imply speakme Spanish may also be understood through the entire Italians.I'm a fluent Italian speaker and this summer season I went to Spain.I attempted to talk Italian with them however they did not understood me so much. Thanks God,I knew slightly bit Spanish (For simply in case). Remember,Italian and Spanish are each exceptional languages.Plus many phrases which can be very similar to every different have exceptional meanings in each languages.

I'm Italian and I could help you (I speak also Spanish) but I guess this is not the best way to become fluent. I feel that the best option to speak more fluently any not native language is to practice it the more you can.
When I was out of the school (a very longtime ago....!!) I was able to read and write the 3 languages that I had studied but speaking and understanding them by voice was really a pain.
I've succeed in improving this fact just by speaking with people (directly or by phone, with huge difficulties at my beginnings) and by this mean I was grasping in a better way ,day by day, all the 3 my foreign languages. Nowadays you've many more opportunities, given by the movies on DVD , TV via Sat, foreign books diffusion, music, tapes, etc. even if the best way is still to live for a while in the Country of the language you want catch better-
It's also very important you are not shy and ashamed for speaking a different language; remember that if you're speaking in a language that's not your native idiom this is meaning that the person you're speaking to most likely is not able to communicate with you in your native language...!!
Good luck for yr career as interpreter !!

I speak Spanish.

What you described is significant. This phenomenon is typical of individuals who are on the cusp of mastering the language. Because of your age, you will more than likely overcome this issue and become more fluent.

If your goal is to become an interpreter, I highly encourage you gain experience living in a Latin American country so that you can gain language skill and context which will assist you while interpreting.

I worked as an Interpreter once and encountered an individual who was also an interpreter but had no language context. He interpreted the language without context which left the recipients totally confused.

Suerte y que siga pa'lante!
