I've had dogs my whole life. But my dog Bebe is giving me fits! Lately she has been hiding under my bed at no particular time of day, just whenever she feels like it, and when I come to look for her and/or get her out, she bites me! She's never bit before, and she's always been a real sweetheart & lover rather than a fighter or biter. She even does it if I'm offering her treats to come out, and she knows to come when she's called. Is she claiming under my bed as her territory or her "den?" And what can you suggest to get her to stop this weirdness???

She's spayed, so no pregnancy... she was just at the vet for this problem and the vet didn't see any illness.

Take her to the vet. Sudden behavioral changes can be a sign of serious illness, and her tendency to hide and sudden aggressiveness is just more proof that something is very wrong with her.

She must have a vet exam first. Sudden abnormal behavior is often due to a medical problem - especially hiding and crankiness.

In the meantime, either keep your door closed so she can't get to the bed, or put something under the bed so that she can't get under it. Provide someplace for her to go where she feels secure, though: a crate with a comfy blanket and/or covered by a sheet, a dog bed in the corner, a towel or blanket under a coffee table, etc.

Yes, she COULD be claiming it as her den. We however had a Miniature Poodle do the same thing except is was under the couch and she would snap at any one who reached under there.
Sadly it turned out that she was ill. We had let her alone thinking she would out grow this, but we found out too late that she had kidney failure and was in pain.
Please talk to your vet. Also, did you add another pet to the home recently? Jealousy can also trigger this behavior.

She is being territorial about the bed and not recognizing you as her pack leader. You will need to get to a trainer for obedience training for the both of you. Training is as much about the owner as it is for the animal. Good Luck

Actually TriviaTM is right...could be an ear infection. Ear infections in animals make them turn even on their owners because they are disoriented.

It sounds like she is trying to claim that as a den. You might want to try blocking off her access to that area. We've also had luck with handfeeding to teach our dogs submission. You might want to get her checked out at the vet -- this seems like it could be either a sign of pregnancy or an illness.

Leave a leash attached to her at all times when you are home and let her drag it. When you want her just pull the leash.
