I can't speak for all protestants, but those I know believe that ONLY those who reject Jesus Christ are going to hell. Jesus was part of no denomination and His message of salvation wasn't exclusive to a particular denomination. If a person truly understands the message of hope in the Gospel, accepts that s/he is a sinner in need of grace, and trusts in Christ for salvation, that person (regardless of his/her denomination) is saved.

I believe what the Bible says...and on that note I believe that ANYONE (Catholic or Orthodoxy or anything else) who does not believe with their heart and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was crucified and buried and rose on the third day to now sit at the right hand of God the Father is going to hell.
There are millions of 'religious' folks out there that think they have a handle on Heaven's entrance exam but aren't even in the ballpark. 'Straight and narrow is the way, and few there are that find it.' It is soooo simple that man in our elevated state of intelligence have missed the point. It is a FREE GIFT and we simply have to accept it to get to Heaven.

Well if some protestant sects say they are when it is up to God to decide and judge then there will be one big happy family of the three down there.
Catholics confess that Jesus is Lord, was cruxcified, died for our sins et al in the apostle's or Nicene creeds every Sunday or every mass; part of the prayer section

Or to rephrase the question, do Protestants think that all Christians went to hell until a few hundred years ago? Kind of sounds like Luther was the Savior, not Jesus Christ!

Fundies do,but they're a loonie fringe as far as we're concerned. I'm a lapsed Episcopalian, and no,we don't think catholics or Eastern Orthodox go to hell. neither do presbyterians or Lutherans. Just the loonies.

It is not about the denomination. It is totally dependent on whether you place your trust in what Jesus has already done on the cross to pay the penalty for your sings.
Not all Catholics are alike. I believe many are saved but many believe they have to earn their way to heaven. The latter are lost.

Some do; some dont.
It depends on how extreme they are. Some Protestants don't even believe in hell.

Nope... just the most extreme fundies think that.
But then, those same extreme fundies tend to think that only their particular little offshoot gets into God's club anyway.

Sadly, you will find just as many of any of those faiths who gladly tell others not of their own particular faith that they are going to hell.
Protestants do it. Catholics do it. The Orthodox do it.
Let's do it. Let's fall in love...
oops sorry. Song stuck in my head now.
