You are can, not every job needs Exel or Word.. but, you can find online tutorials online for free, and you could learn both in about a week... you seem like a sharp lass, it won't be a problem for you..
Just play with the programs and go through the help menu and play with it, and you can learn it that way too..

you'll need to know excel for most offices!! Some however will require only other basic skills like typing, filing and answering phones. Once you get a steady paycheck, you can purchase a program that will teach you excel. I mean one from the store that will run you 10-15 dollars. It's called excel for dummies. Bright yellow and black. But you can still get another job.

Maybe, but they are almost basic tools now that you won't be sorry learning. Plus it will boost your confidence on an interview.
My wife had the same issue, not knowing Word and Excel.
She found a simple night course at a community college for very little money that was mainly adults who were in the same situation as you. It made a difference for her. She now works a clerical job.

Yes, but not necessarily in an office environment or at least not a good paying one.
Knowing Word and Excel is almost a pre-requisite to get an office job these days.

Sure, why not? Lots of jobs don't require you to know Word and Excel. It would definitely be helpful in the business office environment though.

Yes, you can. If you're lucky, you can get an entry level job and they will teach you some basics in both programs. Or, a better idea... get a few of those "Dummy" books from the bookstore and walk yourself through some of the functions of each program. Then at least you can say you're familiar with them, but not an expert. Both of those programs are best learned by using them anyhow. Good luck in your search!

Well, it doesn't help. You go to school right? Well, there should be classes available at your institution or at any community college in your area that will offer them. You can check the employment offices they sometimes offer free classes for these type of skills. Look around or talk to your advisor.
