Why do religious people disown their gay children?

Not all but some. How can you justify disowning your own child? What is it about religion that can make a person do that? Why would someone value a scripture more then their own flesh and blood?

As some of the responses say, it is often because they are hypocrites. These religions are apparent supposed to be so loving of all of "gods" children, however if it is rarely the case.

There is no justification for disowning your own children whether its because they are gay, bi, straight, whatever. Even if they were to do something dispicable like violence towards others, then they need support and to sort out why these things happen.

People are insane and do insane things.

For example, if your child was doing something you felt was immoral (pick your sin) would you distance yourself from them or keep trying to change them. Some parents just give up.

yes it does say in the bible to leave your family and follow Jesus
