Not all Christians agree that homosexuality is an "abomination". Blame King James, a closet homosexual afraid of his own desires, and a man who tried to rewrite the bible. The word "homosexual" wasn't coined until the 1800s, I believe. There are a lot of really bad translations of the bible out there. As for the Sodom and Gomorrah thing, God didn't destroy them because it's people were gay, he destroyed those cities because they were sexually perverse, and by that I mean having sex with animals, children, prostitution, and all kinds of evil things. The problem is most so-called Christians don't study on their own, let alone read a Bible.
If you want to take the Bible literal, it's an abomination to eat pork, sleep (I mean sleep, not even having sex with) with a woman on her period, and all kinds of things. Look at Paul's words in their original Greek, I don't see how a "harlot for hire" translates to "gay", see how wrong most so-called Christians are. Funny how people are getting uptight on something Jesus didn't' even address.

The oppression and denigration of others (women, slaves) is an abomination as it gives them pain and humiliation.
Child abuse is an abomination, not even the wild nature wants it.
Giving money to some church may be an abomination when it goes to an intolerant theologic institution of saintly high priests and holy spooks who want to dominate the souls and the bodies of human beings.
Giving money to fellow man may be an abomination when it is done to show that the giver is superior and the receiver is inferior or a beggar.
Creating war is an abomination, as it may mean that you are a foe and that you more or less want to exterminate or to subdue other human beings or to take their necessary homeland from them.
Destroying the planet is an abomination, as it is a deadly crime against the planet and the life of others.
Lying may be an abomination when it is not a strategy for honest survival but is intended to deceive and to defeat innocent others.
Two people of the same sex loving each other sexually (copulating "from behind" or for not the legitimate natural design) is a dangerous and un-easthetic abomination, a filthy anomaly that not only the Holy Bible condemns to extermination, but that also Mother Nature very much repulses.
The Bible and Christians suggest and recommend abominable things when they so much insist on the absolute submission to "the Law", on their blunt admonitions about necessary repentance, and on the ever persisting menace of eternal punishment in Hell-fire for those who do not humbly surrender and do listen to the holy admonitions from their herder.

Stereotype alert! Stereotype alert!
I, for one, am a Christian and I think all the things you list are abominations, and I have no problem with gays. All that said, with the exception of the church thing, none of those abominations is Christianity-specific. Many Christians oppose all those things. And a lot of Christians DO give money to their fellow man AND their church. Nothing wrong with that. For that matter, my church contributes tens of thousands of dollars every year to the poor, children in need, hungry, and sick all over the world. Meanwhile, there are plenty of non-Christians that abuse children, lie, create war, etc. etc.
Alas, I don't mean that as a dig on you. No doubt some Christians fill out that stereotype perfectly, but it is not fair to come on here and label us all like that. Regardless, I admire you for caring about oppressed and abused people. You appear to have a really good heart. I guess you can't help it when the Christians that make the rest of look bad are so visible and obnoxious, eh? Have a good one!

Actually, the Bible says that women are to be treated with respect and loved by their husbands; parents are not to provoke their children to wrath; Christians are to help the poor; and that "lying lips are an abomination to the Lord..."
While the Bible doesn't specifically speak about pollution, I believe that God created the earth means that Christians should not intentionally destroy it. As for wars, some wars are just, some aren't. The Bible does condemn those who war against others without just cause. It also condemns those who sit idle and allow a tyrant to terrorize innocents.
As I stated in another response, the reason homosexuality is an abomination is because it degrades what God made pure and goes against God's intended purpose for sex: procreation.

How could you possibly know what I am okay with? And why are you upset with christians, when this is God's business? God has said that homosexuality is an abomination. If you think He's wrong, take your complaint up with HIM--not christians. Understand that God gave you a free will. If you want to corrupt yourself by having gay sex, that's your choice. I don't think it's such a big deal or that it's anything other than what God said it is--an abomination.

its a way of trying to keep things under control. it's a well known fact that the church is one if not the most conservative institution there is, and when there are things that are "not common" to say somehting, such as homosexuality, or women having a stronger better and overall more respected role in daily life than before it is like an abomination. but like everything else, it changes with time.

If you really want to know;-} your questions seem slanted.
Christianity is not OK with oppression of women or child abuse.
The church has worked tirelessly to change these attitudes.
Where you see examples of this is in the historic books;
which are describing the culture of that time & area.
You will note that it's still going on today in that vicinity.
Money given to the church is going to fellow men.
It's used to provide food, shelter, & dignity of work.
The church is opposed to war, except to free people.
The church is for preserving the environment;
all creation was given into the custody of humanity.
The church believes in loving all people.
But sex was intended for procreation; producing children.
It's intended to be between a man & woman.
A child needs two parents to support them.
Any other use of sex is selfishness.

Because the church has used alot of money to help cause and create wars, ie the crusades,
and degradation of women, Mary Madlgine never once in the scriptures dose it actually say she was a whore,
lying, well what proof is there that religion is right?
destroying of planets too much of a stretch, I can disprove global warming too some extent, and so can't alot of geologist.
child abuse, well priest are guilty of these things, and it's hard to point the finger when the integral workings hurt the cause.
giving money to the church is supposed to give to the fellow man.

I don't think Christians are "okay" with your list. I'm not. There are people who get hung up on certain issues like gay marriage because its in the news, and thats why you hear about it. The only people I know who are okay with child abuse are child abusers, okay with lying are liars, okay with pollution are polluters, etc. No one is perfect, and we all make mistakes, but its very harsh to say "all" of any group believes one thing. Every single person has their own beliefs. I think your list of bad things is full of abominations, and I agree that they are all proof of a sorry state of affairs in our world today. But why is it okay to say that "Christians" are all okay with it? Can you imagine if you said that with all black people, all gays, all Muslims, all whites, all athiests...were anything? Please do not judge your fellow human beings based on their belief system. Live and let live. I think God would rather have us be peaceful than hateful, and I think its a much nicer way to live for all of us. Think what we, as humans, could do if instead of seperating ourselves into little warring factions, we teamed up together to wipe out the problems on your list. Boy, would that be great!

That is so immature. Where on EARTH did you get the impression that Christians think that stuff is okay? What the heck planet are you living on? All of the above are already illegal. Same-sex marriage is something that no one agrees on, and that's why some very conservative Christians are fighting about it. The ABOVE issues are no contest-everyone (or the majority) agrees that they are and will remain illegal. Get it? I agree with you that same sex marriage should be the least of our worries, but there isn't much more you can do with the issues you've named being that they're already illegal. I can see you wrote this question out of frustration and anger, and didn't stop to think about what you were saying.
