When the government finds a way to control and profit off of it.

Probably not in the next few years. It should be if alcohal is legal, because alcohal causes more problems then marijuana.

True, marijuana can affect your reflexes when driving, but that can be fixed with a 'no driving under the influence law' Also it would slow you down while driving instead of causing you to speed up, and may cause you to be overly cautious which could result in an accident. However, an accident like that would rarely end up very bad for it is at high speeds that you get morbid results usually.

Marijuana is not proven to be physically addictive, and alcohal is. Marijuana is a gateway drug, however, and alcohal isn't. This is because marijuana is illegal, and someone figures if they did one thing illegal, they can do another (aka a harder drug) so this problem could be fixed by legalizing it.

It has some bad effects, like slowing you down, however it makes people more peaceful. It doesn't hinder anyone else except the person doing it. It should be someones own choice.

It depends on which way our country goes, but I don't see marijuana becoming legal in the next 5 or 10 years in the united states.

Hopefully. Being that there are a myriad of other drugs "ie" Caffiene, alcohol, nicotine, and all of the drugs that the government sanctioned drug pushing pharmaceutical companies have out there that are legal, i see no reason why it should be illegal. Any honest doctor that you ask will tell you that they have not been able to find any serious repercussions to marijuana use. Obviously inhaling anything that is burning is not great for you, but if you wanna get into that smoking ciggs is WAY worse, and if you live in a big city you are inhaling plenty of "legal" harmful substances. In the "Christian" run style of government that we now live under i doubt we will see much in the way of legalization. I mean the federal government actually wastes tax dollars busting Medical Marijuana growers in states that the citizens have passed laws saying it is OK. Maybe it is time to assert our rights as Citizens and also our State rights.

If society becomes more liberal, then marijuana would likely go the way of beer and tobacco. However, the effects of marijuana (at least in the government's view) are worse than that of beer or tobacco so it will take time and a lot more Democrats to legalize it. And yes, I believe there will be some big marijuana industry that will secure it in a way the tobacco industry has secured itself.

Yes. It would prevent a lot of police deaths (no more shootouts at grow-ops); reduce the overload at courthouses; free up jail space for those who are truly violent (generally violence is associated with alcohol; marijuana never induces violence); it would allow tax dollars to be spent on education/medical/roads/etc. instead of being used up on incarcerating someone who grew a few too many plants; and the revenue to the govt from this would be enormous.

Many, many people smoke marijuana without being 'potheads'. No more than having a beer every once in a while makes you an alcoholic. As well, marijuana isn't the precursor to becoming a heroin addict. (Addiction to hard drugs cannot be blamed on smoking pot: there are many factors involved, including personality type).

Yes. I heard a cool theory once that it remains illegal not so much because of the drug aspect but more so because of the multitude of uses for hemp. It's fibers could be used to replace wood fiber paper and even cotton for clothing and shoes but there is too much money wrapped up the lumber and cotton industries. I know hemp is legal cause you can buy yarn and stuff made of it but I wonder what the restrictions are as to how much can be grown. I always believe that marijuana can do more for a person than some of the legal psychotropic medications that are so freely distributed by physicians. When the drug companies can put it into pill form and make lots of money off of it, we will see it legalized. I think its a real shame that it isn't legal and many of those opposed to pot are zombified on Prozac. Let us be able to chose our poisons is what i say.

Yes. It was voted on in Nevada last election and only lost by less than 5%. So quite likely, the next time it comes up on the ballot there, it will pass. And once it passes in one state, it's only a matter of time before other states follow suit.

I don't think it will be because our government is too ignorant to see that of all the drugs out there marijuana is the least harmful. I think it should be legalized. I see nothing wrong with it.

I sincerely hope not because there are enough screwed up people running around. I do have to agree with Big Dave though. If our government can capitalize off of it, it will be legal.
