for anti-christians.

God says it is wrong to steal.

If a bunch of great minds(richard dawkins etc)came together and came to the conclusion that possesions were an antiquainted idea and that theft is justified would you agree?

If the government decriminalised robbery would theft suddenly be ok?

A book, the Bible, says it's wrong to steal. Great. However, it is not the first time in history that people understood this. It was written before the Bible (Code of Hammurabi, for example), and was more than likely a spoken tradition of civilization long before that.

Dawkins would never suggest theft was acceptable. If he did, or were the government to decriminalize it, it would still not be OK. Why not? Because the truth is, when you steal something that belongs to someone else, you remove their happiness, their security, their sense of community. It dehumanizes them, and in return the thief is dehumanized. I have no wish to cause this, either for myself or anyone else.

If the government had a majority democratic mandate?
Now that would provoke a clash of systematic thought!

C S Lewis dealt with morality away from divinity in "The Abolition of Man" and its appendix "The Tao"
It's a function of society, not belief in God.

Theft has almost always been seen as wrong, with the interesting (and not infrequent) exception that "outsiders", those not of the tribe, of the race, may be fair game.

"He's a good boy: he's never stolen from his family" is a statement from a mother I shall long remember.

There is no "anti-christian" king. On a lot of personal issues I disagree with Dawkins and if he said stealing was ok i would disagree with him. Theft is wrong on the basis of logic and were the government to legalize it I would disagree with the government because of the ethical orientation I have.

I'm an atheist, not anti-Christian.

Morality comes from compassion for other people, not Richard Dawkins or anyone else. Theft causes harm, so, no, it wouldn't be okay.

No, it would not. What is your point? There have been governments that have decriminalized murder but that did not make it right (Nazi Germany for one).

I say it is wrong to steal. Lots of different people say it is wrong to steal. Don't try to say that is because a god made it that way. There have been many christians who would gladly steal if they thought they could get away with it. There have been many christians who would gladly murder if they thought they could get away with it. There are even those who would gladly murder even if they knew they would not get away with it. Abortion clinic bombers would be an instance of that.

If you think Christians were the first to come up with the idea that stealing is wrong you need to read a LOT more history. And, Richard Dawkins would never come to that conclusion, so that's nonsense too.

No, but it’s interesting how great minds like Richard Dawkins and others don’t come up with stupid stuff like that. They tend to come up with really good ideas.

No. Theft is evolutionarily nonadvantageous. It violates the two social instincts we evolved with -- empathy and altruism.

As such, it's not moral under most circumstances, probably never.

...Okay. Hi. Anti-christian here (as far as you're concerned, I'm sure).

No. It's never okay to steal. Why? Because you didn't work for that. You didn't put your heart, possibly your soul, into it or getting it.

Stealing isn't cool.
