Speaking as an English person i don`t believe for one minute that 72 % of British people are Christians .I`m not arguing with the statistics but the fact is that all English people who don`t have either activly atheist beliefs or who don`t follow an alternative religion will classify themself as a Christian when asked their religion on some form or the other its what we do but .because they tick Christian it doesn`t mean they attended church ,said a prayer or gave God second thought in there life .
many of them might go inside a Church for Christenings .weddings and Funnerals but even Christenings and Church weddings are becoming less common apart from with Catholics. . In my Area (S Yorkshire the majority of people don`t bother about getting married at all )
so i think the number on the Cenus will depend if the population rises or fall but it will be as inaccurate as the last one

Probably increse! Christianity has come out of the 20th century looking decidedly shaky, and this has a lot to do with liberalism within the churches. Since the 1960s, more and more churches have bent over backwards trying to make themselves "socially relevant", and the result has been that they've now lost the ability to mount any sort of interesting cultural analysis or critique.
Howevert, looking at Africa, Latin America and Asia where Christianity is booming, I think it is going to have a very significant influence on the UK and the rest of Western Europe, on the United States and Australia. Gone will be the old "establishment" type of Christianity to be replaced by is a Christianity which is very celebratory, very experiential, with a very real sense of purpose and excitement!

I'm not sure what the number will be, if people become more truthful, the number will most likely decrease because most christians don't live by a christian lifestyle, they just claim to be christian to look better. Even if people stay the same, i still think it will decrease unless jesus actually does come back.

That was 5 yrs. ago. The most recent one I saw for 2006 said only 54% classified themselves as Christians. By 2011...I don't want to think about it. What has gotten into the Brits?

Wait till you see all the problems that will arise from what the Muslims are brewing right now. The French are starting to see the light. So much so that all the foreigners (arabs) were offered $8000 to leave. People will be begging for the return of more Christians, even if they have to fight to get it. Just history repeating itself.

I think Christians will increase in the next census or at least stay as high as it is. Christianity has been around for centuries, as you know, and has gone through all kinds of turmoil; yet it has remained and grown. I don't see that kind of thing changing.

The UK has one of the lowest numbers of active, IE church going, practising, christians in the developed world. So despite the fact that many by default call themselves christian, we are in reality an increasingly secular society, which gives me much hope for the future. I only hope that other religions atrophy and wither in the same way, and we can finally put all that harmful stupidity behind us!

Probably decrease due to secularisation. But there will still be christians just as there will be muslims. i think there is a need for religion as it can stablise a directionless life and help refocus on whats important to them and their family. Though it does not work for everyone.

It'll stay in the same range, barring some catastrophic revelation (no pun intended here) about the religion.
