Chows are also dominant dogs. But they don't attack as ferociously as pits do.

Chow Chows are among the top aggressors, however, they aren't any meaner than any other dog. I've met little dogs that would rip your ankles out if they could. Pit bulls, Dobies, Chows, etc are made mean either on purpose or through neglect or ignorance. Aggression problems can be taken care of with the proper training.

Chows are the closest breed to 'wolves' that have been domesticated. If you understand wolf,(wild), then you'll understand chow. These dogs are not to be under-rated about they're abillity to ,not only survive, but to flurish during the most extreme conditions. Survival instincts are so ingrained into a chow that it takes little to trigger the 'wolf' responce. Once triggered the only sane thing to do is have it put down. Otherwise you have an enemy that is much smarter than you -you will lose if quick action is not taken!

pitbulls are not mean dogs unless they have been bred and trained to fight. they are VERY good family dogs and VERY good with children, pitbulls have been maliciously labeled with a bad rep because alot of humans are stupid and make them that way, and then get upset and have them put down when they just act how theyve been trained. Chows on the other hand you should be more cautious with. most of the time it is how well trained they are and how the owner treats them, but chows just dont have a very good temperment period. they also dont like quick movements either, so if you have children please warn them to be careful around chows, as you should be too. they can be very sweet, but can also be very quick to temper.

Are you the owner of the chow that bit you? if not maybe the dog wasnt socalized, as with any dog they need to be trained right not to bite. meaning any dog, not just a chow or a pit! all dogs can be aggresive it is all in the way they are brought up... as i read before there are no bad dogs just bad owners!

Well i really think its how the dog is raised and not the breed . I own a chow so of course i have a biased opinion on if they are mean or not . But i say neither . Its how they are raised

Chows are bred for different reasons. They are bred to be extremely loyal to one (maybe two) people only. They were used as guard dogs and to be possessive and territorial. They are extremely good at what they do.

Pit bulls are bred to be people pleasers. They are big strong "labs" in a sense.

Both good dogs depending on what you like however if you see a chow.. I wouldn't try to pet it.

i had four chows that i raised three of them. they were all big babies and would lick a person to death before biting. the fourth one was taken away at 8 weeks and raised in a house of rowdy kids and i heard she would bite any and all.
i've always said it depended on how the dog was raised not on the breed. alot of breeds have bad names because of the way people are raising them.
