Evictions are usually done through the courts. In fact, an eviction is very much like a judgement. Yes, they do show on the credit report.

An eviction will not affect your credit unless you owe the leasing company/landlord money and they report it to a collection agency or sue you and a judgment is awarded to them. At that point it would report on your credit, most likely, as an open collection account or as an unpaid judgment. Both of these would reflect very poorly on your credit scoring and could stay on your credit for as long as 10 years.

It depends why you are getting evicted. If it's for not paying your rent, then yes, it will hurt your credit big time. If it's for something like owning a pit bull dog, then no. You only get reported to credit bureaus for not paying money you owe on time.

They can, but not necessarily. It all depends on whether or not the landlord that evicted you reports it. Some do. Some don't. If they do, and more and more are all the time, it looks very bad.

It will on your credit report only if they report you.

However, your new landlord may also be able to see that; that could give you a bigger head-ache than dealing w/ your credit!

If you leasing your place from a large national corporation (i.e. JPI, AMLI, Taylor Real Estate Holdings), then you are much more likely to get reported. If it's from a local real estate investor, that all depends (how pissed off he/she is at you).

If you are evicted for owing money and the landlord reports it to a credit bureau. (He has to tell a bureau, they don't automatically know.)
