How is it in the over-sexed society that we live in, that we can turn on the T.V. ot look up while driving and see not only half naked but barely dressed women all over the place and that is concidered fine and normal. But a new mom can be arrested for something as natural as breastfeeding? When did this become indecent, it's not like I'm whipping it out in public, what's wrong with using a blanket to cover up? Why should I have to take my three week old son into the bathroom everytime he is hungry? Would you be happy eating your lunch or dinner in a public toilet?

Some of us don't like the half-naked people on TV or billboards either. We should not have to see you feeding your child in public. If you don't like it, stay home and come back out into society when your child is old enough to eat solid food.

People are silly, aren't they?

Our culture has become so over-sexualized that many people can't tell the difference between a normal function like nursing and seeing a breast in a sexual context.

As for nursing with a blanket, if nothing is exposed, nothing is indecent, and you can't be arrested.

Don't let the opinion of silly people stop you from doing what you know is right!

Women shouldn't be arrested for breastfeeding unless they take their entire blouse off, which isn't necessary. They just have to lift up their shirt a little bit. I'd rather have a woman breastfeed in public than hear a hungry baby scream and cry in a public place.

There is actually quite a bit of legislature out there protecting your right to breastfeed.

Legally, any where you are allowed to be eating, you are allowed to breastfeed. If you ever get a hard time about this, just let other breastfeeding mothers know, and the perpetrator will regret it.

If a mother is allowed to bottle feed in a certain area, why should you not be allowed to breastfeed? Who has the right to tell you how to feed your child?

Since you feel perfectly normal breastfeeding your child in public and you are doing so in a public place, then I would be within my rights to film you with my digital camera. There is no law against taking someone's picture in a public place, especially since you don't mind people being able to see you.

Having said that...no, I wouldn't really do something like that, but someone else might. If you don't want someone taking your picture breastfeeding, then go do it somewhere more private like a "family room" that many public places have.

most men -and many women- stare at short skirts, tight tee shirts, bellies showing, ... while some think it is vulgar or shocking. All this while at the beach we are all barely dressed! And also there you see more than you sometimes want to. But the difference is we are prepared for that when we go to the beach. If you flip out your boob, you were prepared for that, you are very aware of the fact you are a little milkproducent while the people passing by don't have that in mind all the time. To you it is a normal daily thing for the moment, not for all other 98% of us.
by the way I thought it was a special thing to share with your child not your suroundings.

if breastfeeding is done discreetly then ther's no problem.

maybe the reason some people have problems with it is because though it serves a practical purpose for the health & well-being of a child it's still may be considered as a sexual object. In soceity, sex is still considered something that should be private (notwithstanding the shows on cinemax, HBO, etc)

It is sad. Nobody would bat an eyelash at some woman with huge, fake breast implants prancing down the beach wearing nothing more than a thong bikini that exposes everything but her anus and her areolas.

When a baby is latched on properly, you barely see any breast anyway, so what's the big deal? People are too uptight these days, and it's sickening.

I breastfed my children (I have four) but never did so in public. That was my preference -- it was a special, private time between me and my baby.

I had breast-milk bottles for the more public feedings.

Even though I'm an advocate of breast-feeding, I prefer not to see women yank out their breasts in restaurants, stores, etc. That doesn't mean I like to see all the sex on TV either.

You feed every three hours -- surely you can schedule around that. I did.

I don't think it deserves an arrest ... geez, don't the police have more important things to do ...

if there is a blanket covering it its fine. i am a photograher and i hate it when i have an appointment with someone to do their pictures and they just whip out a tit and start feeding their kid while they are yelling at the other two. no blanket no nothing just a whole lotta boob. it discusts me and i hate to have to see it. i dont think you should have to go to the bathroom, but a blanket is just fine, keeps its descreat.

No you shouldn't have to do that. I didn't realize it was still a big deal. Frankly, I don't think they can do anything to you. I'd just do it and if someone asks you to leave or something, sue.
