If you get good grades in college and get into medical school straght out of college you will be a doctor by 26. It's the residency thing that's long term but I can guarantee you, most doctors have lives. When I was an intern in a lab we had a general surgery resident who had a 6 years old son. The hospital gave her some leeway because she had a kid.

In India, a doctor in a government hospital has more or less fixed working hours. so, if you can find similar jobs in your country go ahead. But in general, a doctor is supposed to be on call. If you can't do that, go into some other profession.

I'm in the same boat as you. I really want nothing else but to do something in the medical field, but highschool sucked bad enough. I'm not going to be a doctor.

Right now I'm looking at being a EMT-Paramedic, takes around 2.5 years at a community college.

Pharmacy could be great for that. Nice salary, good hours, 6 years of college, and you can get a job practically anywhere you want with the shortage of pharmacists.

Go into dermatology. There are no overnight emergencies. Your appointments are literally a few minutes long.. you are out of the office in extremely reasonable time, and you will make a fortune.
