I saw Michael Moore on GMA the other day talking about his new documentray "Sicko" he mentioned that medical care in America is surrounded too much by greed. This got me thinking. I went to an asian country a few years ago and I feel that those doctors are more driven by greed than doctors in the US. I once volunteered in a hospital where they cared for you first and worried about the bill later. If you couldn't pay the bill who cares you were already treated. That was unheard of when I brought that up in the asian country. So I'm curious, how is the medical system in other countries? Preferably third world. Also did you witness this first hand?

Canada has universal health care, and NO one is turned away, or refused medical treatment.
If you are ill, and need to be treated, then you should be.

Most people not just health care professionals need incentive to go to work, this is usually Money.

I am lucky I live in Canada, health care is "free", but the waiting times are long and can cause problems with late diagnosis.

The Doctors don't appear greedy, but they still get paid by our government based on the services they perform, if they were concerned for their existing patients they would decline new ones to allow for better patient care. But they don't the more patience, the more money.

Greed is rampant in every profession, it just seems more obvious when people's lives are at stake.

Latin-America is third world, my first hand experience comes from Mexico, in there the people who works for someone else have access to the Medical System, the self-employed have to look for medical help where they can get it.
The medical System is composed of ISSSTE for federal workers and IMSS for the rest of the population [not including the self-employed] and all the service is provided for free: doctor's attention, prescriptions, lab work, surgery, x-rays, etc. But the service is far from being good.
The self-employed worker has to pay a small monthly fee to have access to the Medical System, otherwise he/she gets no attention at all.
The best Medical attention can be gotten from private professionals, but that is expensive, no pay no attention.
