I hate to tell you this but I've been a cook for over 20 years, worked many different places, and the only time I ever saw Ranch dressing made from scratch was at culinary school. We all use big packets of seasoning (sometimes Hidden Valley, sometimes a clone) and mix with buttermilk and mayonnaise. You might try letting the mix sit for 24 hours after making it as this will have a big effect on the flavor. --------------------------------------... I just spent quite a while looking through my books to see if I could find the recipe I used in school. No luck. Sorry. This is the best I can come up with off the top of my head. I think it should be close - I'm fairly good at this. If you decide to try it you can vary the ingredients slightly to your own taste. 1 C mayonnaise 1 C buttermilk 1/2 tsp savory 1/2 tsp dried dill weed 1/4 tsp garlic powder 1/4 tsp onion powder 1/8 tsp white pepper Hope this helps

I agree... yum! Try the ranch dressing that is in the refrigerated section of the grocery store... marie calendar's is good and I think there are some others. Usually they are near the produce and a little more expensive and come in a jar. Also, if you like the ranch from a particular restaurant and it isn't a huge inconvenience, you could ask if you can buy some for take-out. I did that at a mexican restaurant where I liked their salsa- they gave me a huge container of it for $2.50.

You can find the Dry Mix for Ranch in the Salad Dressing isle at the grocery store. That is what most restaurants use.

Try the Hidden Valley Ranch packet. Its better than the bottled stuff by far and easy to make. I love ranch dressing too.

The restaurants I have worked at bought either Hidden Valley or Kraft, the difference was that the huge tubs came undiluted. We had to add buttermilk to the dressing, and depending on how much we added, the dressing was thicker or thinner. The buttermilk also added flavor.
Try the dry mixes, and instead of just mayo, add yogurt, sour cream or buttermilk until you find a consistency and flavor you really like.

Try Hidden Valley Ranch, that is what I always buy. But if the dry packet of Uncle Dans I believe it is the southern style.. that is super yummy!

It does, doesn't it? It's probably just huge tubs of the same stuff we can buy though. Hidden Valley, Newman's Own, etc. I don't know for sure though, and did a quick search online but didn't find anything other than do-it-yourself recipies.

Try going to the salad dressing isle and getting the dry mix and mixing it yourself. Most restaurants use the dry mix and mix it themselves due to it being cheaper than purchasing the pre-made salad dressing.
