I have tried to keep thinking of a particular person or "event" I would like to dream about until I fall asleep, it does not assure that I can dream it. I do sometimes but not often. I am open to suggestions, it is so nice to have great dreams.

Dreams are a subconscious reflection of the person that you have been 'hiding' during the day. In other words, dreams are a way for your mind to 'let loose' all the ideas and images and thoughts and memories and stuff that have been floating around inside you from the moment you woke up to the moment you went to sleep.

Think of it as you are a cashier, and you are checking out all the ideas and thoughts standing in line at the end of the day. Although there is someone cute and interesting standing in line to talk to, all the other customers/dreams got there before they did, so you have to take care of the customers/dreams that got there first before you can get to the really cute, attractive customer/dream.

The best way to do this is to deal with the issues when you are awake, so that you don't have to worry about them when you fall asleep. Another way to think of it is as if you are getting into bed and making yourself all comfortable, but remembering that you left the bathroom light on, or a plate of food sitting on the table. However much you want to stay in bed, your mind is thinking what what you left undone. So take care of what needs to be done, and you will have a better chance of having the kind of dreams you are looking for.

Usually when I think about something constantly during the day that I don't usually think about I end up dreaming about it. Even something I just think about for a minute that isn't usual I sometimes dream about. So I would say think about what you would like to dream about a lot and especially before bed and you will most likely dream about it.

you can increase ur odds of dreaming about a certain thing by trying to keep that subject in ur mind as much as possible .however contrary to what one of the answers said u cannot control ur dreams at all its an impossiblility. ur brain is in control while ur asleep. so if ur trying to dream about a certain thing sometimes u'll be able to pull it off. but since we have several dreams a nite u may have dreamt it and forgotten

Yes, you need to spend like 2+ hours before going to sleep thinking about the particular person or even you want to dream about. This way, its still fresh in your mind, allowing it to keep processing the idea.

Usually if you think about something a lot, and then forget about it by the time you go to bed, it'll resurface in a dream. ;D
