I had a best friend who was a girl and whom I had feelings for. I never told her how I felt because I was afraid. She eventually figured it out. Even though I she didn't feel the same about me, she was fine with it. Things were great after that... for a few months. Problems arose, and we haven't seen each other in 6 months. Maybe that's why guys are afraid to confess.

Hi Kara, great question by the way.
I was best friends with a woman for years and secretly had feelings for her, but it was more important to maintain the friendship. We got to spend lots of time togehter and she would confide in me things she would not tell a boyfriend. We got along really well and I just didn't want the bubble to burst by doing or saying anything to ruin it.
Some time later I revealed my true feelings, much like your friend has. You are right, you never know until you ask. But I gained the experience of having an incredible and beautiful friend. Sounds like you have, too.

Its sums down to rejection, humiliation and basically the destruction of the (friendly) relationship you guys have. Some of us guys cant handle most of the things we go through and would rather not confront our feelings about it, hence the reason why he did it as soon as he moved far away. Its selfish and cowardly but its a way for him to know without wonder "what if". It may sound wierd but thats how we operate.

Because actions to the contrary (that is, being overtly demonstrative and forthcoming with one's feelings for a woman) also have diastrous consequences. Whether or not that level of honesty is appreciated largely depends on the man and woman in question, and on whether or not those feelings are reciprocated. We innately understand those risks (whether we can adequately articulate them or not) and we act accordingly. It's a risk either way. Some days you get the bear; some days the bear gets you.

Same reason girls are too afraid to tell. No one likes rejection and our mind always runs to the negative then the positive.

Afraid of rejection. I like this girl like right now, and I found out she likes me, but I'm still afraid of telling her in case she really doesn't like me, I'll look like an idiot.

There are a couple of reasons why:
1) He might have thought you were out of his league.
2) Lack of confidence.
3) He did not want to ruin your friendship.
4) maybe there was a third friend that liked you and he was waiting out of respect.
Guys are strange....they either have confidence or they don't. I feel your pain but please remember that it takes two, if you liked him you had a chance to say something too.

It's not always like that pussy cat. This means you r attracted to him a bit so it feels natural. But it's you, the women, who freak out when a guy tells his feelings when he was only "BEST FRIEND" hahahaha !!!!!
