when should and how often will my dog brake down?

i have a border colly ***** , she has just broken down for the first time . she is ten moths old . i would like to no . how often she will do this , when is she more fertile .

Female dogs go into season approximately every 6 months. With some it can be as early as every four, with some it can be every nine.

The heat cycle lasts about 3 weeks. Females are generally most receptive during the second week. That's when you need to keep her away from the boys.

by broken down I assume she is in estrus - or "heat" - that is she can be bred.

This will occur about every 6 months or so for the next many years.

I suggest you pen her up rather than risk having to deal with puppies. Better yet, spay her. It won't affect her herding abilities and she'll live a much longer, healthier life than were she to remain intact.

And there are many reasons why you wouldn't want puppies - not the least of which is that rather than making money - they cost money. Lots of money - to do it correctly.

I suggest that you have her spayed after this heat cycle. My (spayed) old stock dog is still spry as a chicken and a good herder.

I don't know "broken down" but dogs tend to go into heat and be fertile roughly once a year. Some dogs will go into heat twice a year. They may spot or bleed when they are in heat or about to have a period.

if she has broken down get her a tissue poor thing must be depressed!!!.. get her some happy pills... wouldnt you break down at the thought of being in season with the possiblility of having to have loads of puppies!
