"The grace of God through Jesus Christ our Lord must be understood as follows:grace is the only thing that delivers human beings from evil; without it, they do absolutely nothing good, whether in thought, or in will and emotion, or in action. Grace not only makes known to people what they ought to do, but also enables them to perform with love the duty that they know."

Pastor Art: yes, it's Augustine. And of course I would argue that this whole principle would be founded in the Bible.

Who ordained you? The AG?

The only good in me is Jesus Christ living in me- YES. He has imputed His righteousness to us who believe, only by HIS grace!
It is only by His grace we are saved, through faith, not of ourselves, it is the gift of God, lest anyone should boast- Ephesians 2:8-9

Jesus says "Apart from Me you can do nothing" I love this verse-- it is always reminds me that the only good in me is Him. He has saved me, and changed me, and has wrapped me in His grace- which I do not deserve....But he loved me that much- And why? Because He wants to! His grace is so amazing.
Isn't it?

'If you being evil KNOW how to give good things ...' Jesus' own words show that humans can and do do commendable things WITHOUT grace; therefore Augustine was wrong on that point. Unfortunately, so many people are in awe of this uninspired man's writings, that they cite him rather than the Bible. True, some of what he said was good and useful: but others were more influenced by Graeco-Roman philosophy than Hebrew Scripture and Jewish understanding. For instance, Augustine taught that matter was inherently evil, whereas God had declared all His (pre-Curse) Creation 'very good'. Do I believe God, or Augustine? Lamentably, many choose Augustine, and that leads to other problems and discussions, and man's sinful, fallen nature naturally pulls away from Scripture.
Put away the Theology books, and turn to Scripture instead. When there is something that is hard to understand, then look at a number of commentaries, but remember that the best interpreter of Scripture is other, relevant Scripture. it thus pay to read your Bible regularly, cover to cover, not just favourite passages, which can give a distorted view of the whole picture.
As for good books that can help search for a good overall understanding of the Bible, I recommend Dave Hunt's books, e.g. An Urgent Call To A Serious Faith, Occult Invasion, In Defense Of The Faith; but always read with your eyes scanning the Bible to read quotes in context, ensuring the picture fits. If you find any discrepancies, Mr Hunt would welcome correspondence to his site at http://www.thebereancall.org/
This man never shies away from discussion, and his knowledge of the Bible superb.

God bless you, my brother in Christ.

Taken by itself, it is true, but incomplete; the first phrase, "The Grace of God through Jesus Christ our Lord": God's grace is always there, being defined as unmerited favor. However, it is only made fully available through the shed Blood of Jesus Christ, given as the ultimate sacrifice for sin. That is what delivers us from evil, and makes the grace of God fully operational in our lives.

I would disagree, people do what people do, not because of Gods grace, but because that is what they want to do, or because it is what they think is best to do.

Gods grace is what will save me for doing the things wrong. I will die because I have sinned. And so it should be. But only though the grace of God do I have a chance to be born again and live forever in Jesus.

Grace is when you are living under the rules of God, To be in the grace of God.

We get that through the Sacraments that Jesus gave us. It is not what delivers us from evil, although the Grace of God is what saves us from eternal damnation.

It sounds like you are describing the Holy Spirit to me.

Good Luck!

Peace!

Sounds like a quote from either Augustine or John Calvin.

Its not from the Bible.

That statement ignores what Jesus did for us on the cross, it ignores the role of faith.

Whenever someone puts too much emphasis on a single word, the teaching which results is out of balance with the rest of what the bible teaches.

A unsaved person can do "good".Many anti-christians (that are wealthy) will gather news reporters from around the world to prclaim (to the world) their millions they used to build a school in Africa. They will annouce how they talked with Congress or the UN the need for hunger or Aids help. They will talk to Katrina and Rita victims.
Yes,through God's grace we are forgiven.Only God can open our eyes to truth.

I dis agree even Jesus said ''doesn't a father do good to his children how much more will God do you you.''
the grace of God is beyond human understanding but it is not the only way we know how to do good.
