Did something happen to someone he knows from drunk driving or something like that, or does he simply just not want an alcohol beverage as a sponsor?

It is in conflict with his religious views, as I understand it.

And while I don't share his religious beliefs, you have to respect a man who would pass up on millions of dollars (which he could have gotten by signing Junior) because of strong personal convictions.

I've never heard of any big personal tragedy that has formed his opinion on that matter. Richard Petty won't even allow his drivers to accept a Bud pole award or drive in the shootout. Gibbs does allow for that and Bud ads are all over the stadium where the Redskins play but he doesn't own that. It's O.K., he can do what he wants with his team. He isn't a real preachy guy but still has very strong convictions about not wanting to PROMOTE the use of alcohol. He isn't saying it's the big evil and shouldn't be in the sport, just not on his team.

ANYBODY that calls Joe Gibbs stupid has no idea what they are talking about! The man has not only won Superbowls but he has built up a perrenial championship contending team in NASCAR's highest series. Who else do you know that has done that? Integrity is more important than money to him but that certainly doesn't make him stupid.

Because he does not condone drunken tomfoolery, so he didn't want to be associated with Junior Nation.
