I have it from a-b, top to bottom, and I want it from b-a, top to bottom.

I did not say I wanted it in order from greatest to least or vice versa. I need it in reverse of the order it is currently in.

I didn't mean to confuse everyone by using "a-b". They symbolize random characters like. To clarify: It is currently in order from "blurn" to "wormulon". I would like it in reverse order ("wormulon" to "blurn").

I don't know if Excel has a function to do this, but what you can do is:

- add a column next to the data that you want to sort, and in this new column have the numbers 1, 2, 3, etc. all the way down. (you can type in the 1 and 2, and then drag down to autofill the rest)
- select all of your data, including the new column you just added
- Data-Sort
- In the By Column box, select the new column with the numbers, and pick Descending

Good luck!

Make 2 columns(side by side) and have one going down, and the other going up. Run the calculation for the downward numbers in one, then run the calculation for the upward numbers in the other, just leave the 10-1 alone as constants.

It is called a sort command. Instead of sorting ascending, sort decending.

Check out Data - Sort in Excel. BE SURE TO HIGHLIGHT ALL OF THE FIELDS NOT JUST TH E COLUMN BY WHICH YOU WISH TO SORT or you will have a terrible mess. Play with it in a sample data set if you are not confident in the procedure.

You can drag your mouse to select all columns, (headings at A, B, C, etc), click DATA, then SORT and then in the SORT DIALOG box use SORT BY to select the column of your preferrence and then click DESCENDING.

TA DA!

Excel actually has three types of sorting icons: Sort, Sort Ascending and Sort Descending. Call up the Customize dialog box. Go to Data. There you will find three sorting icons. Move them to your Toolbar among your other icons/buttons. Close the Customize dialog box. There! Your toolbar will have three types of sorting functions in which you can use without clicking the drop down menus.

Let's assume in column A you have 10 values that you want sorted in reverse order and placed in column B.

Put this formula in the column B and drag it down next to each value in column A:.

=INDIRECT("A" & 10 - CELL("row",B1) + 1)

This will give you each value in reverse order.
