for this situation: I would go with Zeb-co 33 or Any 6ft-7ft Rod & Reel Combo Set ($19.95 Each). Depending on the Level of Fishing experience Level the combo Sets come in the close face push button, Which is good for the beginners & Intermediates. Also it will Develope their Casting Skills, Just Push & Hold the Button Cast & Release. For Dad, Spincast Open Face Or Push Button 7ft-10ft Pole. ($19.95 to $300.00) But for Ponds & Lakes or Central Parks, Parks & Wildlife Resovoiurs The $19.95 Combo Sets With 12 Lbs to 17 Lbs Trilene Line will handle most any size Game Fish in Ponds & Lakes.

When it comes to fishing gear some times you get what you pay for. I would recomend a med. action rod 6 to 6 1/2 feet long. Shimano is very good choice and you should be able to get a combo for around 25 to 30 dollars. Your daughtrer would be best suited with a closed face reel. A Zebco Rhino combo would be a very good choice. They are durable and cost only about 18 to 22 dollars. One thing I would recomend is not to go below 5 1/2 feet on the rod length for your daughter. The shorter the pole the harder it is to get distance on the cast. Hope this helps!

You can go to any sporting good store/Walmart and buy a spinner reel/pole combination. I would not buy you daughter one of these snoopy/disney fishing poles, there are cheap and will not last long. For a basic spinner reel/pole combo your looking at 40 bucks or less. Mitchell or Abu Garcia are good brands. You also need to buy here some small in-line floats, split shot weights and some small worm single hooks. This set up will be best for fishing for panfish or bass with a worm for bait.
Hope this helps.

depending on how old your daughter is, you should be in the market for a 4"6' ultralight or light action if she is younger than 12. if shes older and serious about fishing go for a 5"0' light. it can be used for pan fish and other fish in the pond, but can also handle trout, bass, and the occasional sager/walleye. you could get a good quality one for about $40.

A Shakespeare Ugly Stik. It's about $30. You could easily land a five-pound fish with it.
