Theodore Roszak wrote about the effects of LSD in -Making of a Counter Culture-. That it induces a feeling of oneness with everything, other people, the universe, etc. Imagine that happening in a large group of people who want a new way of living and it gets pretty trippy.
It's one of the best books I've read on the 60's counter culture. You can probably find it in a library or used.
My health won't let me experiment unfortunately, so I've had to rely on 2nd hand research.

some believe so. i have had the feeling of being connected with a higher being while on mescaline but after i was done tripping then i came to relize i was just trippin my nuts off. but theres these people in brazil that eat it to heal physical and mental illnesses by connecting with their spirit gods as they trip and it works for them. so there must be somthing to it. lsd i dont think would have anything to do with that kinda stuff though cuz it is chemicals and man made. shrooms and pot and peyote are natural and come from the earth that gives us what we need to live so theyre completely different from acid. have you ever noticed how acid is a harsh tence crazy high pitched feeling trip but when you do srooms or peyote its a real calm good feeling relaxed trip?

Of course they can, and do.
There is a fine line between the spiritual dimensions and mental imagery with sensations and visuals that are almost identical and it is not safe to assume that what one is experiencing is spiritual because that would be irresponsible.
It takes a great deal of wisdom and experience to tell the difference, and even then no matter how experienced the person is, to accept it as a true spiritual experience would be extremely unreliable.
But not unlikely

Any spiritual realizations manifested under the influence of drugs is illusion. I've done acid, shrooms, and weed, and I conducted several experiments when I was high.
Think about spirituality when you are high, and write down your thoughts and experiences, in detail, while you are high. Or record them with a tape recorder. Then, when you are not high, go back over them. I did this, and believe me, I was not experiencing anything "spiritual" when I was high.
A good test is time. Did your "spiritual realizations" change your life? Did your behavior change for any length of time? Did your thoughts? Can you re-produce the effect while you aren't high?

I haven't experimented, but there are enough studies out there which actually investigated this and the answer is yes.
I think the first experiment in that line was called the "good friday experiment", I pasted the first link which pops up if one googles that below.
Also look into peyote churches.

marijuana isn't psychedelic,
psychedelics produce a distortion and hallucinations that are often mistaken for spiritual experiences... oftentimes its just your brain having a (rather pleasant) reaction to the chemicals

yes, if taken in high doses. DXM, Mescaline, and LSD can cause spiritual and or out of body experiences. Pot and shrooms do not though IMO.

i wouldn't exactly call marijuana a psychedelic drug, but i would definitely say that most drugs lead to a heightened sense of awareness. you can call it spiritual if you want, but i believe it just loosens our inhibitions and allows us to experience the dimensions beyond our standard four that we operate in on a day to day basis.

I do not agree that one should do this because of legal issues it may cause one.
But yes, I do believe that one can have spiritual experiences on drugs.

drugs have expanded my consciousness and provided me insights into existence. i have never used them in a ritualistic experience (like an ayahuasca ceremony) so i won't include my experiences as spiritual experiences but they did give me a feeling of connectedness to everything (God?)
