Peculiar question.................no it doesn't make you a good artist, the work you do and people who you have tatted
and made happy make you a good artist.
Were you an artist before you got the tat? Well, I was and people knew me for my paintings, sketches, portraits, etc.
then when I started tatting, my past made me pretty popular.
But, tattooing is a whole different ball game.........there are no erasers, you can't paint over...............you should do it right the first time................no distractions, like if you are tatting a girls
breast, or inside the bikini line and she is naked from the waist down.................nothing should distract you.
Some of my clients even call me Doc, cause they know that when I do a tattoo, I do a tattoo.
I don't even advertise, my work speaks for itself.
So, if you can get to that point, then you can call yourself an artist.
I'm not trying to show off, I'm just telling you the truth.

I have four tattoos and am planning on several more. I would refuse to get a tattoo from a blank skinned artist. How can you administer tattoo pain, of you have never experienced it yourself. Also the artists I know make their apprentices do at least a tattoo on themselves before they can do them on other people. Everyone knows once you get a tattoo, it becomes an addiction.. Next thing you know, you have 10

I can't say for certain, but I can surely tell you that I wouldn't go to a tattoo artist who didn't have ink! My current artist (who is sadly going to relocate shortly) is inked from the top of his head to his fingertips - I can't answer for anything on the legs because he's always in pants.
I feel more comfortable going to somebody who knows exactly how it feels and didn't learn everything second hand.

umm i would like to be tattooed by someone who has at least one tattoo because i want to see their work and see how it looks before i make a decision on a life long thing. allot people can draw fine but they cant tattoo it is good to have something to show and make it visible. so the person you are tattooing feels comfortable with your work.

Thanks for the chuckle....clothing tips from a nudist.....
How about hair care tips from a bald person.....
To answer the question, I agree, I suppose it's not necessary, but it's one of those things that unless I had seen their work on someone else, I'd be a little hesitant. It would just help to know they had been through the experience, knew what it felt like, etc.

probably not but not many people are going to want to get ink from a guy who is naked. it's probably a good idea to know what it feels like before doing it to somebody else.
