I can't believe that Hendrick signed Jr. It doesnt mean he will win.. he may win a few races but JEFFY and Jimmie are the main drivers and will always be, and they will have the best equipment and the best cars out there in Hendrick and they are already the best drivers.. BUT Hendrick motorsports has the best team and as much as I dont care for Jr, I guess I can learn to like him... i think he has a cool personality, but the only thing that pisses my off about him, is him downing Jeffy in the past...

The fan base part is to me is: THE PEOPLE THAT DOESNT LIKE HIM FOR GOING TO HENDRICKS, WASNT A TRUE FAN ANYWAYS.... BY-GOD....

AND where are you all from???
I AM FROM WEST VIRGINIA.......... :)

GO JEFFY GO!! DRIVE FOR FIVE THIS YEAR AND SIX FOR NEXT YEAR, BABY!!!!

Wanted? Absolutely. Why would they not want the most popular and most beloved driver in NASCAR? (I think it is a bit funny that HMS now has the most loved and most hated driver in the sport). Was he needed at HMS? No. They already had two past champions and at least one possible future champion. That is not a definition of a "needy" team.

Junior, rightfully so, was/is desperate. He knows he must get it done and get it done quickly. He needed the best equipment immediately, because like it or not, he won't stay in his 30's forever.

Will he lose fans? Not the true fans. The fans he loses are simply band-wagon fans that jump off at the first sign of trouble. If you want my opinion, they will regret it. If they can't be a fan because of the team he drives for, then they apparently weren't "his" fans anyway. They were DEI fans, and Truex will probably inherit a few fans from this.

I'm from Alabama and a Jeff Gordon fan all the way. Jr. is welcome at HMS. Even though I know my driver would not be welcome at DEI were the tables turned.

I think he wouldnt be there if he was not wanted! I dont think he was necessarily needed. I am a HUGE fan of JR and really cant stand Gordon. BUT, JR has never he has downed 'Jeffy' in the past. HE has supported him numerous times against the fans.

As far as the fans. I am a fan of JR and his driving. I dont base that decision on who he drives for, his sponsors, or car number. I am JR fan, always have been, always will be! He will flourish here ant Hendrick MS and finally have the right materials to win many championships!

Wanted? If the Hendrick team did not want Junior.as a driver, Rick Hendrick would not have hired him. I would think that Gordon, at least, had some input.

I do not remember him ever putting Gordon down in the past. I do remember that Junior was one of the first ones to greet Gordon in victory lane when he tied Sr.'s win record. Junior addressed this issue in the press conference this morning. He called it a friendly rivalry.

Junior fits in with the others at Hendrick better than Kyle Busch or Brian Vickers ever did.

I agree that the true fans will continue to support Junior and the ones that leave him were never fans at all.

Wanted yes but he needed them much more than they needed him. They already have championship quality drivers and teams in place and Jeff is the 2nd most popular driver there is. Rick did say he would have to expand his giftshop now. But HMS could have carried on without Kyle and they would have had no problem filling that ride with a top quality driver. Jr definitely has top 10 talent and the #1 marketability he brings benefits everyone at HMS and will only add to their overall exposure. As far as best equipment and cars, that's the deal with HMS they are so consistent from top to bottom. It's been shown already this year that every one of their teams can win at any given race. The engines that they lease to Haas and Ginn run about the same as the ones they use themselves. I have not been a big Jr fan, mostly because of some of his fans, but will support him now that he'll be a teammate of my favorite driver Jimmie Johnson. I figure with all the people jumping off the bandwagon there will plenty of room for me now.

I think he is just as good of a driver as Gordon or Johnson but his cars were the problem. His stepmom didn't want to put money into the cars and that is costing Jr the wins. You're right about his true fans... I'm a Jr. fan all the way and I don't care who he is racing for just as long as he's winning and Hendrick Motorsports is the best team out there. I don't think they would have signed him if they didn't want him. I think the next few years of NASCAR are going to be very exciting with so many good drivers on one team and all of them driving great cars!

Wow, I can't believe the news! I really thought there wasn't going to be room in HMS for Dale Jr! I am happy that he found a good team to hook up with. Whether you like them or not, Hendrick Motor Sports is a very good organization and Jr will have the best possible cars for him to race with. It will be up to Jr to prove to everyone how good a driver he really is.

I am from Hawaii and have been a NASCAR fan ever since Richard Petty!!!

He may lose a fair amount of "fans" but at the same time I think he'll gain a lot more than he loses. He'll lose the so-called fans of his that absolutely hate Gordon and Johnson, but from the way Hendrick fans write about Junior on this board, and other NASCAR boards, it doesn't seem like the hatred Jr fans feel for Gordon is returned with Gordon fans hating Jr, more Hendrick fans just think Junior "fans" are a bunch of beer can throwing pricks. I think for the most part Hendrick fans will welcome Jr with open arms, and it won't matter too much that he has lost a few of his DEI fans.

I like Jr. I think he has some BIG shoes to fill. I feel bad for him in a way. I think a lot of Jr. fan are his fans because they were his dad's fans, and they sympathize with the fact that he has lost something which makes him real. We all know how untouchable celebrities are. I think his fans will still be his fans. It will be weird wearing a different number sure... but I think this is a good change for Jr. Sometimes you just need to jump start things by doing something completely different.

did you watch the press conference, he is not only needed but wanted.. Hendricks will now have the best team on the track...
If your a true Jr. fan this will not affect your decision to back Jr.
If you choose to move on then you were not a TRUE fan....guess this separates the true fans from the want a Be's..

go jr go

I don't blame him for going to Hendrick racing, after all they always have the best equipment. I personally don't think he is as good a driver as his fans do. Perhaps by him having the best equipment next year, it will prove that Jeff Gordon is the superior driver. No excuses, Jr.
