When out in a restaurant or at home is it ok to double dip chips or other foods in the same sauce or dip? I myself have done it for years but my wife says no. What do you all think?

If it's just you and your immediate family, it's not the worst thing - you all have shared germs before!

If it's a party or other event where it's more than just your household, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

However, if it upsets your wife, put a little bit of the sauce on your own plate and triple dip if you want!

Odd question....

But I guess if you are sharing the dip with your family you could double dip, but if you are sharing the sauce/dip with others, maybe like at a party or something you shouldn't.
I personally don't double dip at all.

You are kidding, right?

If you and only you are using the sauce, then it is OK, I suppose. But if you are sharing a bowl, or you plan to share a bowl of dip with someone else, then it is obviously bad manners.

Usually the size of the bowl, and the number of bowls, implies whether or not is is a shared bowl or not. If everyone has their own small bowl by their own plate, then it is OK to double dip into your own bowl -- since you obviously have no intent to share.

I usually break the chip, (vegetable, or whatever) into smaller pieces and dip one piece at a time. In other words I'll break off a piece. dip and eat it, then break off another, and so on.

If other people double dip, it really doesn't bother me personally, but some people are bothered by it, so I say be mindful and respectful of them.

I personally don't think it's a big deal -most people don't slobber all over their food but more like break it off with little contact anyhow. But many people are more of a germaphobe so it's really no good manners in public. Apart from long items like celery or carrot sticks; you can turn those over and re-dip the other end! Just don't triple-dip them :-)

I say no.

Some ppl are very particular about their food. If you are going to double dip get your own sauce. It's like sharing germs.

If you cant stop your habit then get your own sauce that way it wont be a problem.

Well, Etiquette wise, no, you shouldn't double dip, but sometimes etiquette isnt always needed. At a formal event or one where you dont know everyone, just dip it once. But in the company of friends or family, dip it again.

One word, ewww.

No, you don't. If you must have more sauce or dip, you should put some on a plate and quit inflicting the rest of your dinner guests with your germs.

Depends who your with and how they feel about it. With my close friends, family, and girlfriend, we dont care, unless someone is sick. Its no worse than sharing a drink, or having some of their food.

Its also a cultural thing. White people seem to be really against this, and when they share each others drinks they hold it away from their mouths and drop it in. Brown, asian, and black people seem to be fine with things like this.

You cant get aids from this, it takes tons and tons of saliva to get aids, but only a single blood drop. Most people have had meningitis shots. Its almost impossible to get a cold from this too.

Its not ok to do it with some randoms that you dont chill with that often.
